Actual size of the Epson paper is 13x19. It's called Super A3/Super B on the package. Curiously, the dimensions in LR off to the side in the page setup mode of the print module said "12.95x19.01", larger than the real paper! These dimensions were the same for all the A3 sheet options, regular, borderless, Super A3 and B.

In spite of all the time I've taken up today, I hope you will keep mulling this thing over. Do let me know if you come up with any other ideas for a possible solution. I still much prefer to print in LR if this can be resolved.

"A" sizes of paper are defined in millimetres, and very few organisations translate these sizes into inches exactly.

A0 is defined as One square Metre made up as a sheet with an aspect ratio of 1:Square root of 2 (1:1.4142) which pans out to a sheet size of 841 x 1189mm. (to the nearest mm).

By the time this is translated into inches, then halved a few times to arrive at A3, the inch translation is at best approximate.
A3 in its most accurate conversion is 297.25mm x 420.5mm which is 11.70 x 16.55 inches.

Manufacturers don't cut paper that accurately, so there are many versions of A3 and indeed all A size papers.

I understand. And frankly, I don't fuss at all about the size of those margins. I'll custom mat any print I want to use anyway. It's just the inability to put most of the whole onto a big sheet, even if I lose a bit of it through cropping in the zoom-to-fit option.

What do you think at this point might be going here? Am I missing something or do you think it is some sort of software anomaly? Do you think I should uninstall and then reinstall LR? Remember, I was able to print normally a few weeks ago, and this bugger popped up all of a sudden.

Found absolutely nothing in the printer manual to explain what is going on.

However, the design of the printer does force a margin even when borderless is selected at the top and bottom edges of some sizes. None of these margins are of the size you are getting.

I will think on it, but all I can do is to pose the question in the LR forum. If anything comes up I will come back to you.

Hello Searcher. Hope you're feeling well now. As a follow up to our earlier exchange, I was wondering if you have had any other thoughts on the problem we discussed. BTW, yesterday things took a turn for the worse: I am now unable to print full size to larger papers even if I go through Preview or ViewNX2. The issue remains the same, 60% image, heavily cropped on the left. I'm tearing my hair out.

My gut instinct is telling me there is a problem with either the printer settings or the printer driver, though this correspondence has provided no evidence for my suspicions.

I have found no parallels in either the ~Adobe forums or the Epsom sites (though the Epson sites don't seem to like publishing problems.

On my Epson (not the same machine as yours), I can instruct for a print preview, and when the image is displayed in the preview, actual paper dimensions are also displayed.

Can you display a print preview?
Is it dimensioned?
Does it show the unintentional cropping?

Perhaps you could explain to me how you manage to get the printer itself display a print review.

I can get a review through Preview, ViewNX2, Color-synch Utility App, but Those previews are, I think, all generated through the apps and not the printer itself, so whichever app I choose to print I always see the full image, sometimes dimensioned and sometimes not, depending on the app. For example, I went to the Color-synch Utility App and was able to choose a user-defined size of 11x17, and all the settings for glossy paper, etc., and the print still came out heavily cropped and 8" vice 11". To save ink, I stop after a line or two of ink is printed, knowing I'm not going to get what I want. It's as if the printer itself is somehow locked into the letter size print.

How do you get a print preview from your printer?

BTW, I reinstalled both the drivers for LR5 and the Epson 4800, without any change in the results.

In another attempt just now, I made a new preset for 11x17 and hit print. The print dialogue for the Epson 4800 opened up (the printer is now actually printing) and the image shown is very small but whole. Yet, the print coming out again measured 8", so I halted the process.

I'll try calling Epson again tomorrow. Since everything I try to print from (apart from LR) comes out the same, they have to try to address this themselves. The problem may not be in LR after all, but who knows at this juncture?

Thanks again. I'll let you know what I get from Epson.

Perhaps you could explain to me how you manage to ... (show quote)

My printer is Epson Expression XP-700. It is a five colour photoprinter/scanner, and handles up to A4 flat sheets only.

The Preference screen is shown below where Preview can be ticked or not.

2nd screen is the actual preview generated from the printer driver.

I decided to go back to Epson for a solution, as I was unable to print large papers in LR5 but also not in any of the usual applications. After an hour and one-half (on a non-800 line) I was able to recapture the ability to print via Preview and VieNX2, apparently by deleting all the Epson presets and re-setting the initial settings on the 4800 itself from the Menu. That may work for any of the others in this chain who have been plagued by the same issue. Although I still cannot print large from LR5, at least I got some relief. Good luck... and many thanks to Searcher for time he spent with me on this, although we were unable to get to the root of the LR problem.
