My daughter got Tiger when she was 9 and she is 21. She just got home from university for the summer the week before last. He was being very loving with her and my wife. Then a few days ago he was very sick and having trouble breathing. They took him to two vets, a bunch of tests, heart trouble, fluid causing one lung to collapse. He seemed to be responding to the meds. She and I got home from the Tamron Tailgate Tour and after we ate she and Mom went to give him his meds. He was on our bed and having trouble breathing, he responded to her petting and purred for her one last time. Then he just stopped breathing. He waited for his Jasmine to get home so he could say he loved her and goodbye. She and my wife are huddled on the bed and Mom is trying to comfort her youngest over the loss of Tiger. He was a big cat, 18 lbs at one point, and not fat, just big, and gentle. He loved and cuddled, he put up with silly hats and costumes. He would lay still if he woke before her and her arm was around him. He was gentle with the other cats, and even the puppy we got 5 years ago. When Jasmine was at school he went to Mom, he would climb into her lap and just cuddle and love, he was doing it only a few days ago. He slept with Jasmine two nights ago.
Now he is gone, and our baby is crying, well, so am I.

Here are a few pictures from those years of love and play. About 6 or 7.

It is very sad when you loose a family member. My heart goes out to your family for the loss of such a companion. It is nice that you were together at her time. Doug

Oh robertjerl, my heart breaks for you and your family...we love our pets so very much and it is always so hard to say goodbye! Your daughter can take comfort in how much Tiger loved her, what a wonderful friendship! My condolences!

Dogs and cats are better than most people. Maybe you have seen this before.

Thanks so much. She loves cats so much, she had four and we were keeping our oldest son's while he is on active duty, one died a little over a year ago while she was at school, we had to keep it secret until finals were over so she wouldn't melt down. Now Tiger is gone and she has two, plus her brother's.

Thank you, I have seen it before. It is a beautiful thought.

We are members of the Baha'i faith. Our faith teaches that though animals do not have immortal souls like us, that if we have animals we love in this world then our souls will remember them forever and so in a way they will live on with us, imbedded in our soul's memories.

I hope people understand what I am doing. I am remembering and the sharing helps.
Tiger adopted us, we didn't adopt him.
We had a cat, Misty, just over a year old. My wife walked down the street to see a friend and saw him in the friend's yard with her other cats. She walked home and as the door closed she heard a meow and scratching at the door. She thought Misty had gotten out. She went to open the door and here was this silver tabby about 3 months old she had seen in her friend's yard. She picked him up and he snuggled in her arms while she walked back to return him. The friend said he wasn't her's, he had followed her home from her morning run and just settled in with her cats. That scratching on the screen or the door to the garage was his way of saying "I want back in." for 12 years.
Debra brought him back, he made himself right at home, made friends with Misty and we had two cats. He would go outside, Misty stayed in almost all the time, her adventure was to take naps in the garage on a shelf. When he came in he seemed to tell Misty about his adventures. A year or so later we brought home two kittens from the Railroad Museum. The museum cat had six and when we were there one evening helping clean up after a festival we were told the kittens needed homes. Jasmine fell in love with a mostly black torti and my wife fell for an orange tabby, they both came home. Curled inside my conductor's uniform hat, held in Jasmine's arms. They promptly adopted Uncle Tiger as their guardian. Raikou (named after a pokeman) died about a year ago, the vet said the symptoms were of a rodent poison, we think he caught and ate a poisoned mouse around the neighborhood.

Well, I guess I will stop for now. I'm crying again for loss of Tiger and my daughter's broken heart that I can't mend with a kiss and a hug like when she was small.

Sorry for yours and Jasmine's loss, Robert. Our Tigger was very much like your Tiger, and he took care of our kids as they were growing up, too. We still miss him.

I for one totally understand, I have a 21 year old cat and I hold my breath every morning when I call him for breakfast! We love them, they love us and it hurts! Thank you for sharing the photos and story of your special friend.

I am so sorry for the loss your family has suffered. Cats seem to know which homes they belong in, even if it isn't where they are supposed to be. Tiger truly picked your family as his own and I am sure his life was filled with love,
