Good shots, Saigon! I think I may have been on this bridge but not sure. Where does it start and end? Do you know when it as built? It was many years ago that I may have been on it.

Sailorsmom, if you ever went to Key West, you were on the 7 mile. The new bridge was built in the 80s and prior to that there was only the old bridge.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy some of the pictures of the 7 Mile Bridge and Sombrero beach...

These are beautiful photos. Did you take some of them from a boat?

The bridge begins at the south end of Marathon Key which is the largest of the Florida Keys.

In the early years the only mode of travel to Key West was by steam boat. Then Henry Flagler extended the Florida East Coast Railroad from Homestead/Florida City all the way to Key West with a series of bridges connecting the keys.

There was a major hurricane that wiped out the railroad which was never rebuilt. The first Overseas Highway followed the path of the railroad and was built utilizing the old railroad bridges. In fact, the guardrails on either side of the Seven Mile Bridge were made from the original rails. You can see them in image #7.

Thanks jfn007

No, I took all the shots from land (both sides of the bridge) while my wife did some fishing from the Old Bridge.
