Thank you Michael for the visit and the nice comments. He has left his artistry all over the top beam of the playset. I guess it is a good thing my daughter does not play on it anymore. I had only seen one around here prior to this morning and did not know if I would be able to ever get a shot at one. Sometimes you get lucky.

Glad you were quick enough for this one!

I looked out the window this morning as I was getting ready to leave for work and I saw this guy hanging on the front of the playset in my backyard. I quickly put my Tammy onto my T3i and took 4 shots handheld at 600 mm. This was the last and best of what I shot. I did not crop this at all. I did some basic brightening of the overall picture as the light was still pretty low and I had to shoot at 1600 ISO. It may not be perfect but it is my first.

Wow! That's a beautiful clear shot Andrea that you managed to capture under somewhat pressured conditions. I do recall a moment when I was driving home once & lo & behold as I rounded the corner to our house I spotted a woodpecker pounding away on a tree right in front of me. Stopped the car.....grabbed my camera & proceeded to snap a couple of shots. Somewhere I have that picture.....but it looks nothing like what you captured. Congratulations!! Bob

They are hard to capture. Your photo is not bad. Lacks overall sharpness and contrast.

Wow! That's a beautiful clear shot Andrea that you... (show quote)

Thank you Bob for taking a look and commenting. I really was surprised that I got anything worth keeping. I had only this weekend taken my Tammy off the camera and put both away. I don't think that is going to happen again until I am ready to go to Denver in a couple of weeks. I need to have the combo ready for anything I see.

Thank you Linda for the visit and comment. I am really glad I saw this guy as well and will be keeping my eyes out for another shot at him. I hope the next time lighting conditions are better.

Thank you Jim Bob for the visit and comments. I knew that anything I got was not going to be my best given the conditions under which I was shooting. This was taken around 7:00 in the morning and my yard does not get much light early due to the large surrounding trees. I really didn't even expect to get a usable shot. I will be keeping my eye out to try and catch him again in better conditions.

Thank you YoungEsqr for the view and comment. I felt very lucky to have anything to share. This all happened so quickly and then he took off. I am not taking the Tammy off the camera gain until I am ready to travel in a couple of weeks. I learned a lesson here.

I might have to follow your lead. I got my Tammy for Christmas and haven't had it on my camera but once since then. We are headed to Ithaca and Montreal, so I'll take it with me.

I know exactly what you mean. You were really lucky to catch one at all. I can hear their calls in the woods behind our house but I have not been fortunate enough to photograph one. Kudos to you. Perhaps a bit of post processing might add impact to an otherwise excellent shot.

My Tammy is actually my second favorite lens, with the first being my 24-105L. In a couple of weeks I will be traveling with my Tammy for the first time. I will be in Denver, CO for a week spending most days in the mountains. I am really excited about what I might be able to shoot while I am there. Enjoy Ithaca and Montreal and share your pics when you return.

I am sure that some post processing would help this out, the problem is I am not very good at pp so minimal basics are all that get done to my shots!!

Hey. That's OK. I'm not one who desires to spend hours upon hours at the computer either. Once you learn the basics, that might be all you need.
