So what does your current backup lack that you need?

I'm asking not to diss you but to try and get at the heart of why folks succumb to so much G.A.S. here on the 'hog.

It's a real trap that many fall into (ask me, I'm a recovering addict.)

Yeah i think i had a moment of G.A.S. I think i have come to my senses. I am not currently look8ng at a different camera. I actually decided to purchase an external hard drive because my computer is getting full and i am real need of bscking up my photos(more than another camera).

Good for you!

Experiences, not gear.

Now go out and shoot some photos!

I don't understand why you want a new camera. You love what you have and your backup is almost like your primary. I'd spend money on lenses, if even that is necessary.

The D3300 has a pentamirror viewfinder. If you go up to a D7000 or D300/D300s you'll get a pentaprism viewfinder A pentaprism viewfinder is better. It gives you a larger, brighter view. The D300s has been one heck of a camera but its sensor is outdated. It would be best to go with the D7000. It has a wider dynamic range.

Amazon still has brand new D7000 and D300s cameras at discounted prices. They're an authorized Nikon dealer. I just bought another D7000 from them.

I started with a D300s and still use it.Went out and got a D600 refrubed. Very happy with it too. But going full frame was a good choice. The shots are clear and I am having a good time with it. My Moon shots are with the 300s for the extra reach.:)

Found your post rather confusing and some of the answers even more so. Looking quickly at what you have posted here on the Hog what is a new camera going to give you?
Your stuff is just OK so with my honest head on I would say master what you have completely and improve your PP skills and THEN look to upgrade.

I am only an avid amateur and I purchased two cameras for the same reason. One has a long lens the other a short lens (if that works for my project) No need to change lenses as often (especially outside).

I just saved my money to make the purchases. Now I work on purchasing additional lenses that would make my life more fun. If you love your camera, keep it and get a backup you love as much. Good luck.

I am wanting a new camera, i am looking at a couple of older models, so i would like to hear opinions on my 3 top choices. I am a portrait photographer so that is the biggest factor in my choice. I am looking at the d300, d7000, and the f5200. I just cant seem to decide. I currently shoot with a d3300. I am suriously confused.
Thsnks in advance.

Of the three, I'd get something in the D7000 family, refurbished.

They are all similar, same sensor, different megapixels. I would go with your budget and which feels best in your hand. Which one is closest (Button wise) to what you are using as your primary camera? Do you need Wifi? As a back up, I like to keep the camera very close in operation to my primary camera. I'll throw in something else, have you thought of mirroless as a backup? Just a thought. It wont be like your primary as far as settings and buttons but its fun to play with.

I would look at the D7100. Strong construction and overall a great camera. I have a D300, D3200 and a D7100.
