I have a d7000 and use a sigma 17-70 on it most of the time. I want to buy a d610 or d750 soon but don't have any lenses for a full frame camera. I was thinking of buying a sigma 24-70 first to use on my d7000 and then later purchase a full frame body to use it on. I cant afford them both at the same time. is this a good move to getting into full frame? lense then body? thanks in advance for any help on this subject.

A 24 mm was about as wide as you want in a full frame and a 70mm is only
20 mm more than a 50mm on a FF which is a normal lens on FF . What is the
Price of a 17-70 mm that you were wanting . About $1200 or$1400 I'll check

Yes/yes.

Good move to get glass first, I'm very happy with my sigma 2.8 glass. Not quite as fast to focus as my "now deceased" Nikon Glass, but unless you are shooting sports or BIF, it is plenty fast. Tamron, on the other hand.... Well it is fairly good, but you half press the button, go get a cup of coffee, come back, and hopefully it will have focused. OK, not "quite" that bad, but noticeably slower than either Nikon OR Sigma.

I love my sigma 17-70 on my APS sensor cameras. That is a very nice focal length to work with. Remember that equates to about a 26-105 angle of view. If you want to work in that range on a full frame camera you might consider the Nikon 28-105 for an equivalent angle of view on your FX senor camera. When you use it on you APS sensor it becomes about a 42-152 getting you a medium telephoto. You mentioned the 24-70 which would not give you much advantage on you crop sensor camera over what you already have. So if you are going to buy the lens first get one that will compliment rather than almost duplicate the lens you have. You can also buy the Nikon used or refurbished (older lens) 28-105 at bargain price. Of course it is not an f2.8 it's a f3.5 at the low end of the zoom range but as you zoom out you loose that 2.8 speed depth of field anyway. Just sayin. good luck. Happy shooting.

I went through that dilemma, after much research and driving myself crazy, a professional friend suggested I look at the Sigma 24-105mm Art lens. It is worth looking at, it might fit your needs!

I was looking for a good all rounder to compliment my primes and settled on the Sigma 24-105 f4 after much research. I haven't had a chance to put it through it's paces since I just got it but, I'm very pleased with it so far.

I will say that the low light focusing performance surprised me a little (in a good way) and locks on consistently in low light. Also, the focus speed seems to be plenty fast enough for most action shooting. It feels nice, solid and well built. It's a bit heavy but, balances nicely on the 800 and not bad at all on the 7100. Esthetics may not be quite as nice as the Nikons with the pretty gold. The zoom and focus rings feel very nice and smooth, with just the right amount of resistance for me. The focus ring is sort of narrow but, that doesn't seem to be an issue, at least at this point.

Please keep in mind that I have little experience with this type of lens and nothing really to compare it to, with exception of handling the Nikon 24-70 and 24-120 in the store.

I have not had time to properly evaluate IQ but, I doubt the Sigma will disappoint. For that matter, I doubt the Nikon 24-120 would either.

I believe it does warrant consideration. I am quickly becoming somewhat of a Sigma fan boy  :D

I would have to say "yes and yes". Research FX lenses and consider various focal length ranges too.
