I have a d7000 and use a sigma 17-70 on it most of the time. I want to buy a d610 or d750 soon but don't have any lenses for a full frame camera. I was thinking of buying a sigma 24-70 first to use on my d7000 and then later purchase a full frame body to use it on. I cant afford them both at the same time. is this a good move to getting into full frame? lense then body? thanks in advance for any help on this subject.

Yes/yes.

Good move to get glass first, I'm very happy with my sigma 2.8 glass. Not quite as fast to focus as my "now deceased" Nikon Glass, but unless you are shooting sports or BIF, it is plenty fast. Tamron, on the other hand.... Well it is fairly good, but you half press the button, go get a cup of coffee, come back, and hopefully it will have focused. OK, not "quite" that bad, but noticeably slower than either Nikon OR Sigma.

The 17-70 will be wider on your D7000, it would not work properly on the full frame but of course you already know this that is why you are considering the other lens.

I guess I didn't understand your first question. You asked about getting full frame lenses to use with your future FF camera.

A 17 mm lens will be wider. I didn't even see the question.

A lot of it depends on what you want to shoot. You may want to research if you really need a FF camera, or if you are falling for the FF hype. Don't get me wrong, they have their place, and are extremely helpful for certain kinds of photography. There are many pros that are going back from FF to micro 4/3. Same resolutions, much less weight.

You owe it to yourself to also check out the Tamron version of this lens. You might like it even better.

Not bad to check it out. I had one, immediately got rid of it. It was a pretty sharp lens, but the focus speed, and hunting drove me up a tree. In this particular instance, I preferred the Sigma. Seems to focus quicker, and actually locks on focus, where the Tammy would hunt.

This is why renting lenses before you purchase is a worthwhile investment.

well if you have to ask which will be wider of these two . Do yourself a favor
and keep your money in your pocket . Tell you know what your getting into . I would Get the nikon 18-105 it won't brake the bank and it is not a bad lens .
And when you know a little more about what you want. You can sell it for about what it cost you there around $300 new. used or refurb $150 or there a bouts .
