I currently use a Nikon D7100 body and hope to upgrade to a D750. I usually take skiing and mountain biking pics. For mountain biking, shots can be close and without a lot of time to focus due to the trees and twists and turns of the trails. I tend not to prefocus as bikers lines do vary.

I also have a Tamron 24-70 but I wonder about the speed of the autofocus against a Nikon 24-70. Therefore I now wonder about the Tamrons speed of autofocus against the Nikon.

Can anyone provide any advice on speed of autofocus of these two lens?

Many thanks in advance.

Read the reviews at B&H. Some low light auto focus issues.

I am just about to get the tamron 70-300 for my d5200 after much research and frigtened bank account. great reviews and award winning. But luck have some lovely gift vouchers to cover that G.A.S. treatment so going to be splashing on on the 150-600 too in next few days

If you can afford it, the Nikon 70-200 2.8 G is a fantastic lens in all aspects and hard to beat. To save some coin, you could look for the previous version, used or try the lighter, and less expensive, F4.

If AF is an issue, go with the latest Nikon version .....

Most people shoot Canon for this type work ....

I couldn't be more pleased with my tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens. is very fast, only downside is the weight of the lens. When i was shopping for this sense ,or other, I found good info and comparison videos on you tube. Several compared Nikon, Canon and Tamron is side by side shoot outs, good info

I have a Nikon 70-200 VR 1 bought used and it is likely the best lens in the bag.
The auto focus is incredibly fast, even at wide open, and the clarity ( I have begun to avoid the "sharpness" word) is stunning. A snapshot of a performer on stage in low daylight, and zooming in via photoshop, I could quite literally count the whiskers remaining from yesterday's shave.
This was on a D7100, still in use, and I love this lens.

I have just upgraded from the D7100 and Tamron 27-70 to the D750 and Nikon 24-70 and I really wish I had kept my money, The D750 focuses a bit better in low light and to be honest I was happier with the images from the D7100 better than the Setup I have now I still have the D7100 and Tamron and am reluctant to sell them. I'm finding it hard to fine tune the Nikon 24-70 to the D750 and after many tests find my Nikon 50mm 1.4 is sharper than the 24-70 @ 50mm, When I put my Sigma 105 on the D750 its very soft.So up to now I'm not happy. I'm thinking of sending the D750 and all my Nikon lenses to Nikon to fine tune but am afraid of the cost. I would strongly advise renting this setup before buying. (or maybe I pixel peep too much)

Of course the 50 is sharper, zooms are inherently less sharp than primes, with few exceptions.

Having used the Nikon 24-70 over many years and with 4 different cameras I think its over rated.

50mm £300 24-70 £1350.. It does not seem right,, I agree I'm not blown away yet with mine.. maybe fine tune will result in an improvement fingers crossed ..

I have read many reports where it states that cameras like the D800 d750
Likes expensive glass $1400 $1600 $2000 range and your not getting the full
Range of what those cameras can produce if you skimp on lenses . I have seen pictures of $600 lens used on a dx 300s camera and same lens on a D 800 . The one taken on a dx was better

am I reading this right . Your going to get both of these . So your gaining
70mm to 140 mm on the front end with the 70mm -300 mm as in the next few days your getting a 150-600 , on the top end of that your only gaining
300 mm over what your getting on the first one . I would just get the 150-600, and pick up nikon 35mm mm which would be normal cheep . And a 80 mm later on maybe a macro . That's big over laps on what your getting IMHO
