Is getting a smart phone worth it if you have point and shoot and bridge camera? I asking only from a photography stand point, because this is a photography discussion section.

Drigby, obviously phones have a lot of uses besides taking pics.
I personally only have a full-bore dslr and my phone. That said, I don't ever plan on doing photography with my phone, but I take a pic once in a while. On the other hand I'm not one of those that feels I can't leave the house without a camera. My photography is too purpose driven to just wander around with a camera unless I'm traveling.
From your comment, I take it you don't already have a smartphone? Everybody should have a smartphone. Besides the obvious things, they can have photography apps for DoF, birds, camera manuals etc! ;-)

They are not worth it at all unless you don't mind carrying a regular cell phone, a camera, a typewriter, a recorder, a computer, a game machine, and an uncountable number of other devices with you everywhere you go. If you do hate carrying all that stuff around, then maybe you do need a smartphone.

Hi Drigby 1,
I have a smart phone, it's an LG G2 with a 13mp camera and it takes superb photographs. The only problem is when using it in bright light it can be difficult too see what's on the LCD screen.
My main camera is an Olympus EPL5 but I always have my phone with me as I transfer photos to it on the go with an Eyefi SD card.
John.

I've found my iPhone6 real handy on my road-trip. Yes I've taken a few pics with it but I primarily use it for time-lapsing the entire road-trip from start to end.

I don't use mine for photography, but it seems that a phone would be a good choice for street photography. Very unobtrusive.

It's also handy to have in case you're an auto accident to record pics for insurance claims etc.....

Probably not for use as a camera. But I use my SmartPhone for many other things (when it is not confusing the hell out of me and really pissing me off). The "camera" in my Samsung Galaxy S4 is pretty good at times. Actually better than a really cheap Samsung point-n-shoot I have but never use.

The cell phone camera does OK in even light lower contrast scenes. I found it works best in either well lit indoors or in open shade outdoors. Get a bright or hot highlight and you've got burnt pixels! Not a good "camera" for sunsets. For any real or serious photography, I use a real camera.

As even a hobbyist photographer I would never consider a Cell anything camera as a substitute for a DSLR, better Point-n-shoot, Bridge, Mirrorless, or what have you. Despite megapixels (and my cell has more than some of my cameras), the sensor is tiny and the lens cheapo, the images fall apart if you enlarge more than say Web use.

Do you want a phone or a camera? Smart phone for some photo apps is a good idea, to replace a camera, not so much, IMHO, in case of a car accident OK, for shooting otherwise, disappointing, you'll have a nice shot and can't do anything with it. Just my opinion , Bob.
