Hello, Hershel. Firstly, I want to thank you for being on this forum. Your organization is clearly the class act in NYC. I've visited the 'wannabees' in the city and don't waste my time there anymore.
My question is about the Sony a6000. I started researching it vs. the NEX7 and finally decided to give it a try. While I looked at it the body price was $448 at your store and also on Amazon, who I believe follows your lead. Just in the last week, however, the price rose $100 to 548 at B&H and Amazon. This seems curious to me for a camera that may be on the verge of replacement. Can you explain this without revealing trade secrets? Thanks for your time...Ed from Albany and now North Carolina.

The OP asked a perfectly legitimate and appropriate question in this forum. If Hershel is "swore to secrecy" then his answer should be the same regardless if answered in the forum or in a PM.

This is a question any one of us would ask a sales associate face to face right in the B&H store so I don't understand why asking in the forum is an issue.

I agree. If the company cannot or will not discuss pricing that is their choice, but as there are probably a large number of B&H customers on this forum it seems perfectly appropriate to ask the question.

Where are you seeing the price rise? I have noticed that certain items I shop (but haven't purchased yet) & (through different outlets) have started becoming pop-up ads with slight price increases. But if I go back to the "store" via a favorite link, the price is still the lower amount I first made note of. Makes me wonder about chasing links....

Hi and sorry for the delayed response. I posed your question to Henry Posner our Director of Communications who has significant experience in this area and his response is as follows:

"In general supply & demand are the prime components of price fluctuations but in this instance we also have to look to Sony USA’s enthusiastic and early adoption of ‘unilateral price’ policies. Once upon a time US distributors used MAP (minimum advertised price) programs to set the lowest permitted advertised price but let the market and individual retailers set the actual selling price. In the wake of the US Supreme Court’s 2007 Leegin decision distributors like Sony USA (and numerous others) began employing ‘unilateral price’ policies which set the lowest permitted selling price. Authorized retailers like B&H Photo are contractually bound to honor ‘unilateral price’ policies. They are enforced rigorously and the penalties for violations can be severe."
