I have seen many threads on Photography books and found much good information.
My specific question is books targeting a specific camera like a "Field Guide to The Nikon D3300". Are these kind of specific books worthwhile?

I find them helpful and I haven't been a newbie for a very long time. "The Digital Field Guide" series is especially good for beginners. David Busch's guide books are better for more experienced photographers. The "Magic Lantern" guides are good for beginners and experienced photographers.
I never bought a book for my D3200, but when I got my D610 I was overwhelmed and bought David Busch's Nikon D610 Guide To Digital SLR Photography. I read sections of it every week and keep learning more and more. I also watch many videos and ask questions here.

If the book you mentioned is by either David Busch or Darrell Young, the book you mentioned is worthwhile. Both authors have published many camera specific books and I have books by them myself. If it's by someone else, then I don't know.
Another good book to have is "Understand Exposure" by Bryan Peterson.
Edited To Add: David Busch's Nikon DXXXX Guide mentioned by Norm goes into much greater detail than David Busch's Compact Field Guide For The Nikon DXXXX
David Busch has a large, cult-like following here. I personally prefer Rob Sylvan's "From Snapshots To Great Shots" books - the text is easy to follow and no nonsense, but enjoyable to read on many levels. I like Sylvan's direct approach. His books are available in paperback or in Kindle electronic format from Amazon.

I have always supplemented the Japanese manufacturers' English translation manuals with a good book. Today, you can buy the e-book version reasonably priced, AND load it onto your smart phone or tablet so the whole book is available in the field. For $20, you couldn't have a better support aid.

Only speaking for the one I bought
"Nikon D7100 Snapshots to Great Shots by John Batdorff"
Re-sold rather quickly because I kept going to the user manual for info ... because it was not in the book.

I do not know, I never buy a book, just look a bit at the manual and then I look at videos if there is something I need to know or figure out how others are doing it.

I read the entire manual that came with my D700 prior to taking the camera out of the box. While I did that, I was charging the batteries. Then I read the book again, with camera in hand. I found that to be a great way to learn about the camera.
I've learned a lot of additional tricks by watching some very ingenious videos on youtube.

45, welcome to the HOG!
I've never used one of those books! I've always found the stock manual to be quite complete and are small enough to keep permanently in my backpack.
I'm just looking to figure out how to use my camera, not be entertained but I understand that some just can't relate to the manuals.
Good luck and happy shooting, however you learn your camera. ;-)

I'd bet there are a number of good "crash" videos on youtube.
