Are warranties truly that important on used equipment? I have bought many used photo items on ebay and CL and have never had an issue with things not working, and the savings were significant not only with new, but used from KEH and the NYC big boys. With ebay you have a stellar buyer protection plan, and with CL you test drive it prior to purchase.

The normal warranty for used equipment from dealers is usually no more than 30-90 days and I have found you are paying more for used equipment from them. Reference my previous post in which I bought a used like new in the box with 1246 shutter actuation's, Conon 5D MK II for $900.00 off of Craig's List, and when I tested it, it was indeed like new and worked perfectly. KEH's consistent price was in the $1600.00 range with a 180 day warranty. With a savings of $700.00 I do believe I'll take the chance without a warranty.

Probably not. If you buy a well cared for piece then odds are that you won't need a warranty in the stated time period. Even with new gear I have found a good return/exchange policy of more use, and that was only once. A warranty can certainly be an asset for any item, but lack of one is not necessarily a deal breaker, IMO.

So true. I have most of my equipment is used, no warranty and has worked for years. If it is bad just make sure there is a return policy and be able to show it was bad.
