Hmmmm......I'd be interested in that data, versus your biased opinion.

Did you ever hear from Mennonites or Quakers?

If all Christians were like them we wouldn't be in as much trouble. I have Mennonite friends here in Florida. They don't expect others to follow their faith unlike other factions that seem to force their beliefs on others.

That's the thing about faiths........you have to preach them to maintain them. The fractions, like Quakjers and Mennonites, can practice as Christians because others push the higher cause worldwide.

Does preaching do more to convince the audience or the preacher? I think it is the latter. Quakers are an older sect than any of the common Christian faiths in the US. Mennonites are from Austria. Both spend more time working on themselves than others. It is a shame the same cannot be said for pious prigs that populate the US's so-called Bible belt.

Do you really mean "faith" or another word? Faith can be an individual thing. Individual faith does not need not be preached to be maintained. If one is seeking followers, then maybe so.

Well, we have to yell and preach at you to save your sorry sinful ass!

I actually sorta prefer attraction to promotion ...

Rix, we showed up here about the same time and I've read a great many of your posts, a common thread running through all of them (those that are on the religious topic) is your obvious resentment toward Christianity. I of course have no way of knowing just who did or said what to you that created your anger but don't you think its time to let it go? By and large Christians are for the most part good hard working, loving people and just don't deserve the anger you harbor toward them. I can understand how some of the zealots can make you a little nuts as they do the same to me in fact I left the ministry because of that holier than thou attitude of my board of elders but just because there are some arrogant assholes in the church doesn't make all of them arrogant assholes. If you are comfortable with your belief system (I don't think you are) then just let it go why is it so important to you to belittle that which you really don't understand and obviously don't want to get involved with anyway. I think there's stuff you're just not wanting to share which is of course your right but you really come off as a bitter person suffering from some sort of rejection....Okay now let me have it Rix.

I maintain that all Religions are ridiculous interpretations of lore and myth. It only seems that I am against Christians in particular since there is a whole tree of that kind of nut on this board.

Any belief that requires a special dress code, body mutilation, changing ones eating habits, segregation of sexes, races or income levels, caste systems or any other regulation that has to do with any external aspect of one's life is absurd.

Rix, what religion did you come out of? I have never seen any thing like you have described in my life and I have been a Christian since my child hood... and no, I was not indoctrinated. My parents did not attend church.

I accept your statement Rix but I would like to add that I'm a Christian and I don't do any of these things nor do the Christians I associate with. I will agree that there are some pretty strange sects out there and some are very legalistic but to paint us all with that brush is just not fair or ignorant one of the two and while I vehemently disagree with you I don't view you as ignorant so I think you're being unfair.

We are all born atheists until someone starts telling tales. My mother was an Episcopalian and my father was a Baptist. I attended church when my mother took me and only on those occasions. When I was 16 years old my parents gave me the option of continuing to go to any church in any religion or none if that is what I wanted. I chose the latter as I never for one minute believed any of the stories.

I have studied religions in college. I have found that being moral is not tied to any religion and that one can feel at peace without passing a collection plate.

I believe that the belief in a supernatural being has been a double-edged sword. Now, in a time when science has literally cleared up many of the so-called mysteries that befuddled primitive man religions are becoming both irrelevant and passe.

That's really very odd Rix, you attended a Christian church until the age of 16 and you studied religion in college and yet by what you post it is obvious that you know very very little about Christianity and what you do know is very surface with absolutely no depth of understanding at all.

My comments were more toward other religions although the classification of women as second class is pretty much a standard in all Abrahamic religions.
