I have been a Nikon Camera user most of my professional life and I would never use anything else. I have a Nikon film camera going on 25 years old and it works perfectly.
I recently invested in a Nikon 3200 for a vacation camera. I bought two and returned both. I am not slamming Nikon because like I said I have been very happy with the cameras.
The 3200's however in my opinion were not close to Nikon quality. I had lens focusing problems with one 3200 and the other the battery door literally fell off. Has anyone else had similar issues with Nikon. I have noticed Nikon is having some of their camera's made in Thailand...What happened to the superior quality of Japan.

Although I had no trouble with the D60 or the D3100, there is a marked difference in the quality of the D7000, and the D7100. My Df was made in Japan and is exceptional in quality. I have noticed the battery door on the Df will "pop" off if you let it open and bump against something. I finally realized it was designed to pop off rather than break. Now I open the door and remove the card/battery and close the door. Problem ended!

I shot a d3200 for 2 years and never had a problem...however, I bought mine refurbished and altho it may be just urban legend I think the refurbs get a more thorough check than an off the line camera.

Not sure if this is relevant but I use a D300s and D7100.
Both have battery doors that come off (if sort of levered) but this is to allow the use of a battery grip.
Does the 3200 have this as an accessory?

I have read a lot about the door on the Df coming off, but it had never happened to me... until I set it down with the door open the other day! (oops). Luckily, like you said, it's designed that way.
as far as the D7000 - D7100 goes, are you talking about build quality? If so, which one is supposed to be better? I haven't heard any quality complainants about either. I have a D7000 and it has always performed flawlessly.

I don't believe there is a problem with a Nikon made in Thailand - more a Nikon design issue. I have had doors come off D300, D7000 & D7100. The D7000 had to be sent in for repair for a new battery door as it would not stay shut in the end. My guess it is designed to come off if knocked rather than break. However it comes off to easily and I think should be redesigned.

I, too, have been using Nikon since about 1969. Would not consider anything else. I got into the digital market with a Nikon 3200 and then a 3300. I have had NO problems with either camera or the lenses. I converted the 3200 to infrared only, and I've just upgraded to a Nikon Df. This camera I love.
I love being able to use all my older lenses.

So, I would guess you simply got a bad one...a lemon....a tosser. But, in rereading, you said 2. Very strange. I've had no problem with my 3200. So, I really have no idea what to say.

I have found that the D7000, and the D7100 are very rugged, and very well built Erik, with the Df being more like a precision instrument. Certainly no complaints here!

Get a D750. There is going to be a difference between a $400 camera and a $2,400 camera. Nikon designs the camera and lenses and machines and procedures that manufacture them. Whether they're made in Japan or on the moon, it's still a Japanese product.

The difference is metal or plastic, especially lenses. Metal lens mount and metal driving gear or plastic counter part?

I have two D5100's - one bought new and the other purchased refurbished. I shoot very heavily - birds, sports, weddings, family. Both are at or have exceeded their shutter actuation lives and I've never had problems with either. Actually the one bought new has a broken card door for several years from a drop - MY fault! I will be purchasing D7200s in the near future. Love Nikon!

Oh, forgot to add that these are 5 and 3 years old and I had a D60 prior to that for years - also with no problems.
