Experts say to spend money on a good glass instead of a camera body. So if I have a Canon 5D mk3 with a Zeiss lens that cost let's say $ 5000 and places it side by side with a Canon T3i with the same lens, same distance being aware of Dx vs FF, good lighting no need for high ISO. Am I going to get the same quality from both camera?
Your opinion please.

From what I have read, A decent camera with an outstanding lens can produce excellent picture. Its just like our eyes. You can have the best and healthiest brain in the world or have an average brain but if your have 20/20 vision you will see exceptional well. A good lens is like good eyes.

T, what do you think?
And what experts are you citing? ;-)
Without a lot of advice, which would you get, a $2500 body or a $2500 lens? ;-)

As I understand this matter, the better-engineered lenses require a better sensor to capture the lenses' resolution capability. I say no more now on this part. More-experienced photogs will likely give a fuller answer.

In addition, if a given camera produces unacceptable image noise at, say, ISO 500, then the resulting images will contain this noise no matter the quality of the lens.

Short answer: Match the quality of the lens to the camera.

I have shot up thee tree, from Rebel XTi to 60D. I have had lens from 18-55 plastic zoom to 15- 85 and 10-22 EFs.

As a personal choice I would not go the 16-55 route although I have had very good images with that lens. But, I would use the 15-85, 10-22 EFs on the T2i.

I have since added a 6D FF and thing that the FF adds additional mix that is unfair and undefinable. I chose to not go with the 5D 2 or 3. I don't need or use the GPS or Wifi. I am sure that this sensor is way ahead of what the T3i can do.

My opinion??? Surely you jest!
My opinion is that opinions are like rectums...
Everybody has one. :hunf:

Skill. You could have the best money can buy. But if you're a hack, you will be a hack with a Brownie to a Hasselblad.

OK T, time to get serious here?
Take that same 5dmklll and put that same 50mm Zeiss lens on it. Now take one of the new 50mp 5Ds's and put the 50mm f1.8 plastic fantastic on it. Stop them both down to say f8.
At 2 1/2 times the mp, which of those two cameras do you think will have the better IQ in a print at 60" x 48" with the lenses that I mentioned ?? And that's an EXTREME lens example.
I realize the new 5s is not out yet but I can tell you where I'm gonna put my money!!
The difference between the best prime lens on the planet and the worst prime lens currently made is a couple of percent at best, if THAT!!.
We're talking lenses that possibly span decades.
The difference between the two bodies that I mentioned is merely 3 years of technology.
Anyway, that's my opinion but I'm far from an expert, so we'll have to wait and see what the real heavyweight experts have to say!! ;-)

we have no way of knowing whether this chart represents a 1% difference or a 400% difference but dxo reports a difference and considers it substantial enough to note that the $4000 lens has twice the 'score' (what ever that is) as the $500 lens.

Depends on the dynamic range of your scene.
As the dynamic range increases, there will reach a point where the 5D3 will outshine the T3i.
This will be noticed in colour accuracy and noise performance.
There will also be a difference in depth of field characteristics.

lighthouse, i have a quick and dirty question.
recently acquired a 70D but have no experience with canon bodies.
How does the 70D compare IQ wise with the T3i and 5D3?
A simple answer will suffice.

I haven't shot with a 70D.
A quick google tells me that the IQ of the 5D3 is better.
The 70D will be better than the T3i.

There are other differences between the cameras aside from IQ.

thanks, i just read so many reviews in a short period that they no longer made any sense; and IQ was my only interest cause its bolted to a rail for tethered macro shooting only.

Then It's not really necessary to spend lots of money on glass. This statement is not true 'buy a cheap camera body and spend your money on a good glass".
