Hello all - I have been pondering on deciding whether to buy a Nikon D7200 or D610 Camera. I do understand that the D610 is full frame camera but I understand the new D7200 has some features which can make it interesting. The camera would be for general interest, especially when going on vacation or cruises. I would some opinions from fellow hoggers. Regards
Do you currently have a dslr and lenses? You would primarily be using it only on vacation or a cruise? No birding or nature or street photography? I guess I'm asking is it only going to be used a few times a year and then left in the closet?

Vacations and cruises...try the d7100...does all the things a 7200 can do...but its got a slower buffer...if youre not shooting action shots...little difference
Pretty general question...a lot of good point and shoots out there
Possibly so - thinking whether it justifies spending $800.00 more when the camera wouldn't be used that often

Check out sx50 here...use the search at the top of the page
To follow up on catfish252 - I do not have a dslr and lens at the moment. Had a D90 a awhile ago and sold it

Full frame cameras have their advantages, but for what you are describing, I don't think you're ever going to notice a difference, especially an $800 difference. Lenses will be more expensive for the FF cameras as well. I do weddings, and have never had an issue using a DX sensor. The end product is the important part. Would a FF sensor help me in low light? ABSOLUTELY, but I have no problems with low light with what I have, so I am not in any hurry to "upgrade" to FF any time soon. (and I own mostly FF 2.8 lenses already)
ggttc - the D7100 and D7200 are not far apart in price. What's your opinion on the D7200.
bkyser - I figure in a low light situation one can use a flash but your thought and suggestion is acceptable.
My sentiment was if it won't get all that much use save some money and get a nice point and shoot or bridge camera.
that what is crossing my mind - to justify spending $800.00+ to buy a camera that would not be used that often

The buffer speed is the main difference...same mega pixels same number of focal points...
I have the 7100 and am pleased...also look at refurbished if its going to stay in the closet for a lot of the time
Look at some of the models the major brands have to offer, read some reviews, and go to flickr and search for photos taken by those cameras. They all take some awesome pictures nowadays. The new Nikon P900 that was announced 2 weeks ago has a 24 to 2000mm (83X) zoom optically and I believe a 2x electronic doubler, plus it will fit in the wife's purse. I'm sure other brands have comparable specs. If you are going to go dslr I'd go D7100 you can get refurb or real deals on new ones since the D7200 has come out. The D7100 is as nice capable today as the D90 was in its day -- it's a very solid camera -- one of the best Nikon has ever made.
will give the D7100 some consideration

Hollis, welcome to the Hog.
I think you should get whatever cost less money, or better yet, something like the 5300. The 7200 is an action camera, you'd be wasting your money for what your shooting.
I think some of the mirrorless FF options out there cost what the 7200 cost, you might consider one of those as well!
If you're going to take video on some of those vacations you might also look at the Canon 70d.
Good luck with your camera choices!! ;-)
