They were Marshall's Transparent Oil Paints. Yes it was closer to tinting because the oils are thin and applied with cotton not brushes, but some added texture latter.

My wife had the same oil painting process done by a painter here in the Atlanta area when our son was young. Our son is now 18 years old and 6'-4" tall. The painting captured a time in his life that was sweet and precious. OK, he's still sweet and precious - just not as small! Unfortunately, the artist has since passed away.

This is exactly what I had in mind. (& a stellar example!) I have similar portraits of my two sons that we inherited when my 2nd Mom (M-in-law) passed. Probably why my wife is so fixated on using the same process.
When I 1st checked into this about a year ago I don't think I found very many sources but my latest search revealed quite a few. Some of their terms (prices, money down, 100% satisfaction guarantee, ect.) seem pretty good. I'll probably try to pick one that seems to have the best rep. / reviews and pay my nickle... Thanks for taking time to respond to my post.....

My limited experience is that a fine art quality 'painting' will not be cheap but as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. With that said, review their work and judge the value for yourself.

You could always use a paint by numbers app, print it on canvas then pain it yourself.
