10 Things Users Hate About Canon & Nikon

I didn't write this so point the fingers elsewhere but this is at least a little different from the typical Canon vs. Nikon argument. This comes courtesy from "The Photography Bay". Let the Canon & Nikon fanboys begin!!!

Canon is the leading camera manufacturer, Canon is the market leader. However…

Canon does a lot of things in the right way (though not all agree) but this doesn’t mean everything is ok. Photography Bay made a list of things you may really dislike as a Canon bound photographer (my comments in parenthesis).

Price of Lenses and Accessories
One-Year Warranty on ALL Products (not for EU)
Major Lag Between Product Announcement & Availability (think 5DS, it will be available in June 2015)
Affordable 4K (uh, this is a good point – c’mon Canon give us this stuff)
Lack of Internal Interval Shooting Options (this was eventually featured on the EOS 7D Mark II and the upcoming 5DS and 5DS R)
Where is the Next Generation of Storage Formats?
Slow to Adopt New Technologies and Trends (another good point)
Mild Upgrades in the Canon Rebel Line
Abandonment of the Serious HDSLR Shooter (I do not agree on this one)
Market Segmentation

After having posted a list of 10 things photographers do not like about Canon, Photography Bay posted a list of 10 things photographers dislike about Nikon (just fair, isn’t it?). Each of the following points is discussed in the original article.

Too Many Recalls & Product Advisories
Price of Lenses
Nikon Lags Behind in Video Features/Accessibility
Niche Products are Too Niche
Lens Rings Rotate the Wrong Way
Lack of a Meaningful Mirrorless Camera/System
No Video Lenses
Nikon’s Menu System Sucks
Wireless Connectivity Should be Standard
Where is the Nikon D400?

Could have titled this "Why Sony Will Be Number One Within 5 Years."

Sony will not be #1 until they have a stable of 150 lenses to pick from like Canon and Nikon have.

As a Nikon shooter I disagree with many of the things that 'somebody' hates about Nikon. Critics are always yelling for the next camera and then whining when it is sold with some minor fault. At least Nikon is dealing with these issues. Nikon's menu system does NOT suck. I would change the order of some items in some sub-menus, but that doesn't deserve a "sucks".

Was this directed at real photographers or cry-baby wanna-bees??
There is absolutely not ONE thing on that list that matters to me. On Either list.
A camera is a camera. Give me a camera and a lens that works and I'm happy. Not one thing on that list would help me produce a better picture or make me a better photographer. It's all unnecessary fluff!

Sony will be #2 when it has 40% of the market. Does anybody know how much market share it presently has??!

Nikon has about 40% and hasn't currently a chance of catching Canon.
If every man, woman and child and even all those related to all 50,000 members on this forum went out and bought a hundred Sonys each, I'll bet it would not amount to even 1/10 of one percent market.

When I was 13 years old I wanted a half frame camera really bad. Even as a 13 year old I didn't fall for it!!

As a Canon shooter I did not see one thing on the list that matters to me. I would think that a good number of Nikon users feel the same way about that list. The subject title would most likely be more accurate if it read: "10 Things A Writer Hates About Canon And Nikon".

Lack of 4K video? Mild upgrades between Rebel models? A menu system that sucks? If either, a Canon or a Nikon, is the the camera that's in my hands, I'll figure it out, get used to it, and make it work. Not really a big deal!

Yeesh, Someone out there thinks something sucks, Someone else thinks something is perfect. I am a Pentax fan, but Canon,Nikon,Sony and Olympus all have and do make good gear. It just degenerates to a Coke/Pepsi Mac /PC Chevy /Ford Pissing contest !

I got a kick out of the list! It is really funny! I don't think one serious photographer cares about one thing on either list. I will say no one wants a recall but it happens with all types of products as new things are introduced. What matters is if the responsible party takes care of it or not. Stir the pot - not with that list!
