While on our short photo jaunt with Sylvia and Bob, we ran across one of the more dangerous denizens of the Florida Swamps. Although camouflaged with water plant seeds and weeds, this water moccasin was poised to grab any unsuspecting bird or mammal at the waters edge. He was a safe distance from us about 15 feet away. Please try the download.

Danger lurking! A powerful image, Jim, in that the snake is fairly hidden. I like the crop too, works really well.

Nice shot, looks like the snake is deliberately camouflaged in ambush position!

Very nice, not only a danger to nature but they leave a very nasty yellow and purple looking bruise on humans too ( saw a lady at the bank and asked what did you do, Watermocassion got me in the flower bed. )

Thanks Dooragdragon, you're spot on with that comment. Granddaughters horse got bit by one just above the fetlock and she has a hole in her leg that is being treated right now. Terrible looking. Thanks for stopping by and the comment. :-D

I wear almost kneed hight rubber boots when sloshing through the glades, got hit 3 different times by various snakes, glad I had the rubber boots on, only slight puncture..............just an idea................

Excellent capture Jim, I'm glad I wasn't there I have a morbid fear of snakes.

Great shot! I'm glad you noticed him while you were still 15' away so he didn't feel the need to show you his dental work.

They also make snake proof boots and leggings and pants not to mention the ones made for weedeating and stuff like that.
The choices are just as deep as one's pocket is.

Nice job with this one, Jim, it's very well done. Even snakes have to eat, and since they're chronically low on funds, can't point a finger at him for not being at McDonald's.

Great shot. But 15 feet would have been way too close for me.

Great comment One Camera One, I grew up in South LA and always wore hip boots there so I know the feeling of comfort they can provide. Thanks for the visit and the comment. :-D
