I looked at all 3 versions before replying and I do prefer this simpler composition. There is a repetitive theme of cross shapes that you have emphasized, not just the two obvious ones that are raised high, but the ones echoed in the architecture as well. This is a fine geometric image even without the subject matter. There are nice interplays between level and slanted lines, and there's a nice implied slanted line formed by the two elevated crosses that parallels the roof line. The color palette is simplified and there is no dissonance between the sky color and Lady Liberty, they blend.

I wish the shadows weren't quite so deep, but that isn't a deal breaker. If you try another shot, try it very early or just before sunset to see if you can get less of this problem. I hope you'll share this with the folks who make the church bulletin, this will make a nice cover or a nice piece of art for their notecards. I have made church bulletins and note cards for 15 years so I know what I'm talking about on this one. My critique skills carry less confidence so take them with whatever grain of salt you prefer.

I really like how far you have come with this image. In my opinion the compostion is working perfectly now. I do wonder if there were a different sky, if the cross that the liberty lady is holding would stand out more, but that is not a deal breaker for me. Just a nit pick.

How do you feel about this journey? Are you pleased with the results? Do you feel this image shares your original message the best?

This is a much better image BeaverNewby, it now cuts straight to the chase, there is no doubt what it is about. It has impact. As has been mentioned be lighting is a bit too contrasty but that's no big deal.

The best so far. You have reduced it down to the important elements.

I appreciate your time and words of wisdom. I have learned a lot about myself and learned some skills that will help me progress further in my quest for Photo Nervana if there is such a place.

Yes!! I believe my journey is just beginning and I have so much more to learn. I'm a sponge.

A more dramatic Sky is a definite Plus to add. This time of Year, it pretty overcast most days. The Saying around here is "If you don't like Memphis weather just wait a while?"

Our "frozen" time is now with lots of "Ice storms" in process and in the forecast. Not "Snow" but Ice or Frozen rain!

Thanks for your Help?

Thanks Graham!
I am a patient observer, and as Minniev mentioned time of day will help with the deep shadows. 9:00am to about 1:00pm, here will have much better lighting.

Thanks for your views!
