Angel Oak, that's exactly it. All I could think was Happy Oak. Magnificent tree.

Take I85 south from Charlotte, turn right anywhere between Charlotte and the Georgia line and you will find great places to take photos and to stop and eat. Lots of lakes, waterfalls, mountains, horses and a visit to Greenville , SC is a must if you like shops and neat places to eat. Main street is lined with trees, sidewalk restaurants, shops and a beautiful river park. The area around Clemson University is all small towns, mountains, and water. If that's not enough to keep you busy, you've got Asheville and western NC which is equally beautiful. (I had to put that in as I'm a nativeTarheel. ) Also as mentioned earlier, there's always the beaches and the low country SC. Hope you enjoy your stay in the Carolinas and come back often.

Tks. This is the direction we will take as soon as the weather breaks a little.

You have to go the The Center for Birds of Pray. North of Charleston. They fly birds of pray, take your telephoto and get ready to take amazing pictures of owls and hawks as the fly right at you. Also look up the oldest live oak in the US, it is around Edisto Island, while your at Edisto check out botany bay plantation heritage preserve which was just featured in November 2014 issue of National Geographic. The beach is amazing. Also check out the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge in Charleston , you can walk over it and take photo's of the bridge.

My to-do list is getting longer. Tks for adding to it.

For wetlands with great birds, here are two. The walks are not long or difficult:
Santee Canal Park, Moncks Corner (as much or little as you care to walk. The alligators are all sleeping now--not a problem.)
Huntington Beach State Park, Myrtle Beach (easy parking to great bird sites)

Of course, you must know about historic Charleston. Take a horse carriage to get the scope so you will know where you want to walk. Plenty of some of the oldest churches, etc. in North America. SC is full of great places, these are just a few that are relatively easy on the legs.

We were in Charleston about a year ago.
IMO forget Charleston unless you have at least several days or more. A week better.
Just too much to see. You'll be frustrated at having to leave.
Plan a separate trip .
Charleston is , well, phenomenal. A walk back in time.
Did I mention the food? Oh man!!
Got this photo of the Ravenel bridge w/ ground fog. Thought it was pretty cool.

The bridge is almost etherial, Nice job. We are planning on three days. It may just whet the appetite for another visit next year. And people have also mentioned so many places within an hour's drive from Charleston as well. Tks.

Having lived in the Carolinas previously, here are a few destinations I might visit: Charleston, Ashville, Camden, Brattonsville, Charlotte, Kings Mountain, The Grand Strand, The Outer Banks, and perhaps...Paris Mountain. Wishing I was there at the moment! Good shooting!

Tks for sharing. We went to Brattonsville last Nov when we were down to take the grandkids to the Renaissance Faire. The others will go on our to-do list.
Best wishes,
Glenn

Hey, I see you found Rock Hill's new fountain. Right around the corner is Glecairn Garden, which will be getting really nice in the spring. Also a short drive from you is Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden over in Belmont. About 20 minutes from Fort Mill. And actually Savannah is only 4 hrs from you. Riverwalk park is right across the river from you in RH too.

Yes, we are getting acquainted with local spots. Planning on shooting some wedding pics in Glencairn Gardens for my son in Sept when he gets married. Very beautiful, snd quite a variety of different looks within it. We have been on Riverwalk a number of times, most recently yesterday. I can't believe all the houses going in there now. But the Daniel Stowe Gardens is a new one. If it is indoors we may try it this weekend.
Tks for writing.
Best,
Glenn

Chimney Rock is great for hiking and you can see all the way to Charlotte, NC! Different levels of trails and even one for the kids and it is pet friendly! Great roadside stands to pick up mountain goodies! While you are in the area, drop down to Boiling Springs, SC to Coolies and Strawberry Hill for some fresh farm stuff! BTW, the homemade ice cream at Strawberry Hill is so good! :)

Tks, especially for the extra details about Boiling Springs. When I mentioned places to go, my new next door neighbor had only one suggestion--chimney rock. Now for some warmer weather to enjoy it.
