Recommendations on Wide Angle Zoom for 5DIII: For my 5D Mark III, the 16-35mm F4 sounds like a great lens and am ready to press the buy button. But I'm a little torn between that one...

For my 5D Mark III, the 16-35mm F4 sounds like a great lens and am ready to press the buy button. But I'm a little torn between that one and the 24-105 F4. I have the 400mm 5.6 and I sort've see the 70-200mm F4 (or 2.8, not sure yet) in my future and that will be that. So maybe I should just suck up the focal length gap for now and get the 16-35. With the 24-105, there would be significant overlap when I get around to buying the 70-200 and I'm not sure it's as good a lens as the 16-35. I'd appreciate thoughts please. Thanks!

i opted for a 16-28/2.8.
Wide enough for desktop shooting and narrow enough for landscapes,, it has served well when paired with my 24-70/2.8.

Here is a very good review for the (2) F4 wide angle lenses by Canon.
It has the 16-35 vs 17-40. The 17-40 is about $350 less.

I had the EF17-40mm f/4 L and sold it when I bought the EF16-35mm f/4 L. I use it on my 6D and love it. Very good IQ and a very useful focal range for scenery or indoor shots.
All these shots were taken with the 16-35, except the 1st one (70-300 L) and the last 2 (24-105 L).

The 16-35 F4 has many great reviews for price and corner sharpness.

I have the 16-35 2.8 and it's a great lens but I would not hesitate for a second to get the f4 version.

In the what it's worth department, I own both of these lenses, and would urge you towards the 16-35. The 24-105 is not a bad lens by any stretch, and has a better reach, but is really too slow for any inside work, and has a propensity for an annoying barrel-creep { a very common issue }.

If you don't have the 24-105 f/4, you are going to feel very cheated as you will have the 35-70 gap which is huge.
I have an EF 17-40 f/4, EF 24-105 f/4 IS and an EF 70-200 2.8 IS. The only time I use the 17-40 is when my subject is right up in my face. The 24-105 paired with a 580ex speedlite is what I use short range, under 200mm, and am very pleased with the results both inside and out.

The Canon 24-70 II is the ultimate lens for the 5D II ! but, pricey ...so the Tamron should be a consideration for you.
