For Canon EOS 7D Mark II owners

Today I received my new Meike Battery Pack for my Canon EOS 7D Mark II. It came with a battery drawer for using 6 AA batteries, and a remote control for 2.4Mhz camera control. The feel of the grip is about the same as the Canon grip. It has a storage area for the cameras battery door.

I bought this through Amazon, by the store "Each Shot". The price was $85.00. Much less than Canon. I will be using this battery grip on my trip to St. Martin later this month. I currently own 2 other Meike grips for my Canon cameras, and have had no problems with any of my battery grips. I don't leave the grips on my cameras when I feel the grip will not be needed for a specific shoot. But, for vertical shooting a grip is great. This grip also has the quick control joy stick to move the focus points, and it is located on the grip where my thumb rests. All in all it looks good, and worth the money.

Bill, does the grip happen to have the Focus-On button for bbf?
When I rotate to portrait, that's what I find awkward, the focus-on button.
I'll have to check them out. The AA batt carrier could be a life saver!
Thanks, ;-)

Bill, Could you provide the link to the grip? I cannot seem to locate it on the Amazon site.
Thanks for the great tip

Yes, Yes, Yes. The grip has AF-On, AE Lock, and AF point. When you program the camera for BBF, the buttons are also programmed on the grip. There is also the button for auto focus area. I put it on my 7D Mark II yesterday, and it felt very comfortable, and easy to hold to my hands. As any grip, it does add bulk to the camera. I would think some 3rd party mfg. would add wireless to the grip, and really clean up. As far as the battery drawer for AA batteries, on my other grips, I've never used it. I always carry a supply of LP-E6 batteries with me. You'll also need two AAA batteries for the enclosed remote, if you want to use that feature. So far, it seems to be a worth while investment. One of the things I wonder about is how the available extra current from two batteries will effect the speed of focus in my Tamron 150-600mm lens.

Bill,
Perhaps you could tell more about the grip after you have used it a bit.

Thanks

So far, I've attached it to the camera, and checked to see if all the buttons work, along with the dials. Everything seems to be as advertised. I'm sure after a few years it will have some quirks. The grip does have a 1 year warranty, but I'm not going to abuse it. I do take very good care of my equipment. I acknowledge this is no hockey puck. It is what it is, a 3rd party manufactured product produced in China for a high priced modern digital camera. If this grip does what it is supposed to do on my trip to St. Maarten, and comes home in 3 pieces, I'll still be ahead of the game @ $85.00.

I just got back in from the canal in back, and shot a few BIF with the big Tamron at 600mm, the grip did give the camera a bit more stability or balance fully extended. The weather today is a bit cold, dreary, and gray. I'll have to check the focus later, I have an appointment to make.

Mine was delivered today. I've installed it and taken a couple quick shots with it . So far it feels comfortable and I like having the power of 2 batteries in it along with the possibility of using AA batteries in a pinch. When I ordered from Amazon the page said Neewer but when it came the box said Meike, I don't know if it's the same company or not but they seem identical.
