Basil, I hope that you are as happy with your 6D as I am with mine! I have some great glass for my crop and NOW am happy with the selection for my FF.

I own 7D Mark II and wanted to add a FF to my arsenal. Canon had both the 6D and 5D III in their refurb store. After much soul searching and looking at the delta in features, watching many comparison reviews, etc, I opted for the 6D and am very pleased. Yes the 5D III is a great camera but I could not justify the nearly double price. Keep in mind I still have the 7DII for sports and birds etc. If I was going to sell it and only have one FF camera then I'd have gone with the 5DIII

If you are earning money at photography than a 5DIII probably would be a good choice. BUT, the 6D is excellent for the uses you described. Check kenrockwell.com site for a comparison of the 6D and the 5D Mark III, or 5DS and 5DSR.

Ken's comparison of the 5D3 and 6D was one of the things (not the only thing) that helped me decide to get the 6D to supplement my 7DII. When Canon Refurb had them both on sale, the 5DIII was a cool $1000 more than the 6D and I could not justify that much more $$ for the difference (which was mostly a better AF system). I really like the wi-fi on the 6D; makes remote shooting with iPad very easy.

WiFi on the 6D is very convenient, combining the advantages of offloading photos to a tablet for showing or posting to social media, light editing and also combined with a phone or a tablet makes a great portable and simple tethering solution.

As for the AF being the only significant advantage of the 5D3, there is also considerably better build quality, better weather/dust sealing, 1/8000th shutter speed and more and better controls and customization ability.

I own both and each excels at different things.

I feel the same way. Really love my 6D and can't justify owning a 5D. Haven't tried remote shooting with my iPad yet.

I set my 6D on a tripod with a 300mm L lens and aim it at a bird feeder, then shoot with my iPad while relaxing watching TV and drinking my morning coffee.

I have the 6D also. I do not use video and have not used WIFI, can I order coffee with it?

This is the way to go. When I was deciding between the 6D and 5DIII, my thoughts were I could get and 6D and 7D II for around the price of the 5D III. That way you have all of the bases covered. You have a full frame for low light performance, landscape and portraits with the 6D. You have a crop frame and 1.6x for your long lenses to shoot action and wildlife with a great focus system on the 7DII.
