Sorry - white card, or hand, or a highlight in the scene, or just intentionally "warm" or "cool" by eye . .

Ok.
WB might seem like "good enough" is "good enough" but it's not necessarily.
If you want accurate WB you need to buy a calibrated card (like a WhiBal) or something like an ExpoDisc.
Your hand aint gonna do it, nor is eyeballing it...I don't care how good a person is at adjusting by eye.
That's just life.
