well there, that's your problem....check out what some of the newer phones do in the way of photography, you will be surprised....
not to say their up to par with a decent digital camera, yet alone with any DSLR.....BUT to walk around without the ability to shoot what's at hand is the point....a photograph is only a moment in time that mostly likely once it passes will not come around again.....

You miss the point. I have no interest in carrying a cell phone for any reason, and certainly not to shoot pictures with no matter how good they are. If I was concerned about missed photos I would just buy a point and shoot and stick it in my pocket.

Lots and lots of nightly news coverage, including World News includes cell phone shots.
Watch your butt, not long ago film shooters scoffed at digital.
Now DSLR shooters are scoffing at mirror-less and cell phones.
They are coming and gonna blow right by us. ;)

Right on the mark!

I broke down and bought my first ever smart phone. I picked it based on the camera. It is a Galaxy S5 and takes great photos and can even shoot 4K video!

I too just joined the 21st century with my first smart phone. Also an s5.
This is straight out of the camera the day I got it:

Certainly good enough for something that fits in my shirt pocket.

FWIW: Gerald Ford's photographer and Pulitzer winner, David Kennerly, has a new book out: On the iPhone

"David Hume Kennerly's On the iPhone is a series of essays, anecdotes, and tips about how and why he takes pictures. Using only the camera in his iPhone, Kennerly pursued an around the world photo-a-day mission in 2013. Along the way he discovered that paring down his formidable photo arsenal to a single, simple camera forced him to sharpen his eye and made him an even better photographer. The images and insights in this book will challenge and inspire any shooter, from amateurs to seasoned professionals."

From Kennerly: "Now, more than ever, I know that great pictures are about the eye, not the gear. Capturing the moment, connecting with a subject, translating that into a photo and creating a great composition can be done far more easily and, in many cases, just as well with that indispensible little device we all carry around in our pockets—the same one that we also use to call home and check our bank accounts."

A great chef could make a great dish from those 2 minute noodles.

I agree with the banner you can take a picture with any camera. good ones. now that's another story.

That of course depends on your definition of good. I've seen some great photographs taken with good cell phone cameras, and I've seen some very poor ones taken with top-of-the-line DSLR's and lenses. While top of the line equipment is capable of creating better images, whether the results are truly compelling or not is really dependent upon the skill of the photographer. Additionally the latest cell phone cameras are a huge improvement over those from just a few years ago. I am constantly amazed with the images from my 16mp Samsung galaxy s5. And...it's ALWAYS with me!

I guess I would have to commit it to memory if I didn't have my DSLR with me. Since retiring I rarely carry a phone, and the one I do carry on occasion has a lousy camera.

That's a personal choice of course. My Galaxy s5 is always with me. It's got a great little 16mp camera so I never miss a shot when i leave my dslr at home. I also use it it to access my email and the internet more than I do on my desktop at home. I'm in Mcdonald's right know with a cup of coffee and sending this from my smartphone.

The first image was taken by this phone in Vermont last year, the second in the McDonald's, with bad lighting and no flash, a few minutes ago. The third was taken last Memorial Day. There was, of course, no post processing for any of these images. While not dslr quality, they are certainly quite usable, and since my phone is always with me I never miss a shot.
