Another one up for Anthony Morganti. You can follow Anthony Morganti's series of videos on YouTube. I don't do much post processing, by choice, and I don't want to learn more, by choice about how I spend my time... capturing images or sitting in front of the computer.
That said, I found the Anthony Morganti video's well done, and concise with good comprehension in short bites. That's the way I want to learn. Otherwise both Lightroom and Photoshop are far too time consuming to use.
Time is money, and/or, time spent on proper capture is more productive than time spent post processing.

I like that suggestion, at least the first half, try all the controlls, however I find that most photos are unique, they each need a little different touch, however for doing groups DPP does allow you to copy the "recipe", Bob.
I agree...I am so tired of reading reviews about this lens or that camera or this PP tutorial...the wife (sleepydrdr) just dove in and started playing in PS elements...and using her eyes to figure out what worked...we all have different expectations and different images to process...
I think PS elements 12 or 13 is the least intimidating...but there are hundreds of software programs you can get free trials for
Just get in there and play with whatever software you choose...

Get Jeff Schewe's book "The Digital Negative".
Jeff is definitely worth the read. I believe he was involved in writing the software for ACR.
