Hello All:
Well the Canon T70 isn't satisfactory. Nice to take pics with but not for the future goals. All the courses and accessories are beyond it. So I'm back to trying to figure out the right camera for the job. Starting with the basics and then Astronomy telephoto and then Astrophotography. Any suggestions?

Ron, since you're talking astro, look into the, Canon 20Da and the 60Da. Both are long in tooth but may still be a viable astro option. On those two models the "a" designates them as "astro" cameras. They have different filters for catching more of the red colors that a regular camera loses.
But they may not be that common. Just a thought. Otherwise it will depend on what you want to spend. New, used, etc. Good luck. ;-)

Thanks guys! As usual the advice and response are exceptional. I definitely plan to hit the Astro site but figured I better get help on how to use it first.
Went and looked at the 60Da. Definitely what I've been lookin for. been researching for a year and SS and LFingar
hit it first time out. Thanks guys. Good thing I've got a motorcycle to sell. That ought to buy all the necessary equipment.
I knew someone would recall the dog from the Jetson's ;)

You better hope it's an expensive motorcycle! :-D

what is an Astro
Hi there: My main obsession is Astrophotography. But my very patient and dedicated Astro friends convinced me to start with DSLR Photography since I don't have any photog experience at all. So I was given a New 30 year old Canon T70 film/digital camera. It's a great camera but I asked the wonderful members here what a good camera suggestion for Astrophotography might be. Instantly was pointed toward the Canon 60Da. It has a different filter in it that lets more of the red light spectrum through. Important for deep space objects and planetary detail. This is all for future, as in years if I live long enough :-). For now just listening and learning photography from these great guys and gals is more than enough for me. Oh yea, I talk a lot! I'm sure that more than answered your question.
Ron
PS: Loved Astro back in the day :-)

Hi LFingar:
It is. My obsession most of my life was building and customizing motorcycles. This was my last build. An 08 Yamaha Warrior. Yamaha's 5 year drag champion. 102 cubic inch hot rod cruiser. I put a 110 cube motor kit in it and a few more of my favorite mods. Last ride was clocked at 158 MPH. I was an adrenalin junky back then. I've got four friends that have been fighting over it for three years now. My last offer was 24 Thousand. I just smiled. They don't know I'm selling it yet. This ought to be fun!

For your goals, I'd suggest the highest megapixels possible in your price range.
Nikon 810 comes to mind.
You starry eyed star gazer you. ;)
You have some light years to catch up on. :-D
