Sigma 150-600mm Sport worth the cost? YES!

For anyone who has doubts that the build quality of the Sigma 150-600mm Sport model can justify its cost ($1999), all you need to do is take a look and the lens PRIOR to anodizing and painting the finished product.

This lens is built to endure. And optically it is built to perform! The skyrocketing demand means a long waiting list, but the wait is worth it. I love this lens and it will NOT disappoint!

I'm going to get one of these, somehow, someday. I wish my car was built like that!

I'd like to have one of these too. But I want mine to look polished like the picture, and clearcoated! Then I'd really look professional...as well as quite a thief target.

Only about 2000 reasons why I'm not on the list. But maybe after the car is paid off, the eye surgery is done, etc.

The only reason why I don't have it is my
wallet is MT.

I often wish that Sigma, would build a 600mm fixed focus with OS at about F5.6. An F4 would be seventh heaven.
Let's face it, most of us who will buy the yet to come contemporary lens will use it mainly at 600mm. We want reach and at a good price.

I'm trying to decide between the Sigma 300~800 f/5.6 EX DG APO IF HSM and Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR, but for a variable-aperture and (I assume) variable-focus zoom, the Sigma Sport looks pretty good. My experience has been that Sigma is among the best of the independent Japanese lenses.

While I am a big fan of the Sigma 800mm F5.6 Prime, I am not that impressed with the 300-800mm F5.6 zoom. It is exceedingly heavy, never seemed as sharp as the prime at 800mm, and at 300mm F5.6 is a real light hog. It is still a very good bargain as it can be had for less than the Nikon or Canon 500mm F4 lenses.

Yep, I'm not about to lay down that kind of money without trying it out first. My thought is that 600mm is as much as I need, and I've heard that the 300-800 is pretty good in that range. Right now I'm doing okay with a 400 f/5.6 Tokina AT-X with a Sigma APO 1.4X teleconverter on a Df, but the 600 f/4.0 Nikkor's 2 stop increase over that is huge, especially for grey squirrels, who don't have sense enough to pose in the open. (Guess they don't trust me to scare the hawks off.) So I'm actually leaning towards the Nikkor, just have to keep on saving up my ducats.

That is just awesome. I bet it would sell if they just clear coated it.

Personally I would love to see one anodized in Candy Apple Red and mounted on one of those new Candy Apple Red Nikon D5500 bodies! ;) ;)
