I purchased a 5D when it first came out and liked it a lot. I sold it and purchased my current camera, a 1DS lll. This remains my primary camera. However, I recently purchased a 5D as a smaller walk around camera. I am reminded about the high quality of the 5D whenever I compare its photos to those from the 1DS. I cannot crop as closely and the 5D does not give me a very high quality picture at ISO over 1600, but I love using the 5D. If I were you, I would purchase the 5D I, and use the money I saved on a high quality lens. I think the quality of your glass is more important than the difference between the 5 series cameras.

Image cleaning is something to consider. What am I referring to? Back in my 20D days, and when I was changing lenses during a session, I'd find dirt spots on my images. Okay, just clone them out. Then my good friend bought her 5D. Wonderful camera by the way. The only problem is/was that the full large size sensor was also a dust magnet. So I cooled off my temptation to switch and waited. Glad I did, for my 5DII has the auto clean. Never see a dust spot, even when changing lenses at the zoo.

So, keep in mind that the 5D is an excellent camera, but you may have to address dust spots.

Yes many people say it is a dust magnet and this is something I have to consider because I don't like cleaning sensors etc.

depends on your budget. I have had all three Canon 5D bodies and each was an improvement. But if you want to shoot something like landscapes, the 5D Mark I is still a good camera. I am attaching 2 pics that I shot with the Mark 1. Look at the detail that it captures.

Hello fellow Hogs,

one question. Is the Canon 5D MKI still a good camera/buy or is it better to get a MKII?
General photography: landscapes and travel. Nothing professional only willing to try FF.

What are your thoughts.

Thank you. Very nice pics. With the MKI I would shoot landscapes but also travel and inside churches that I love.

Get the 5D!!!! It's better than the 5D mark II or Mark III unless you shoot video. The ISO noise level is unbelievably low.
