Challenge Dec. 4-6 2014 Window Portrait: Photography Activity

Time for the next challenge...Window Portrait: Photography Activity. I know very little about portrait photography; and thought this might be a fun activity in which to learn more. So hoping those who are more experienced in portraits might assist so we can all learn a little more. Maybe other subjects could also be used for this activity, i.e. still life, pets, etc.
My granddaughter was to be my model, however she was unable to assist me in this project; and my husband was willing to work with me, but only for a very limited time. Therefore I have only one example and it leaves much to be improved on.

Now that I think about it Irene this must be a conspiracy. I'm going to have to wash my windows.
Lol.....no, you don't Bushido.....doesn't this give a natural filter look to the shot?

Irene, this looks like a wonderful challenge. It will probably be Saturday before I get to try it out, since it's dark when I go to work and dark when I come home. I still have Thursday and Friday to work this week. I'll be watching in the mean time. Have fun with it.
Do hope you get a chance to try it out Sunny. Look forward to your comments and your work.

You're welcome Dane.....and thank you.
Does this qualify for the challenge? Although not taken into the window, this was taken with the natural light coming through the window. No flash, artificial light, or reflector.
Reading is Fun

I would say it qualifies and it is a well done pic. I would like to know your second light source. There is a highlight on the camera left which is softer than the one that almost fills the whole of camera right with a soft shadow on the remainder of her face. Were there lights on in the room or were there two windows? It is a nice photograph any way you look at it.

Thank you Richard. Tara was sitting slightly camera left of center in a bay window. There was a window camera right, one behind her, and one behind her camera left. The softer light from camera left is natural light reflected off the wall which was about 5 feet away from her. The walls are beige, so the light was warmer and softer than if the walls had been white. There were no lights on in the room, and I did not use a flash. You may be able to see in the background that I was controlling the natural light with the blinds. In the first picture I took, I had the blinds wide open and the light was way too harsh for a picture of a young lady, so I softened it with the blinds. Much easier to set up than the soft box :o)
Richard, Here is the setup I used: Canon T2i, Tamron 18-270mm @270mm, f6.3, 1/25. I know that's a really strange setup, but it worked--kind of. This was an older picture taken before I had my 50mm f1.4. If I were to do it today, I would have done it differently for sure.

You did well and it was the reflection off the wall and color shift that caught the eye at first. Then at a closer look it looked as thought there were two light sources which with more than one window in the bay window there is. It is a nice picture no matter.
