I would like to have a view finder camera but the ones I've seen are very expensive. Any suggestions.

Alternative buying options are refurbished and used. I buy refurbished and have been very pleased with the equipment. Other members buy used and the comments have been very positive.

Top recommended sites for photo gear:
B&H Photo & Video here
Adorama here
Cameta Camera here
KEH Camera here

If you are located in the U.S, it is recommended to stay away from gray market items (non-USA items) as explained in this article by Nikon.

Hope this helps...

Just to be sure,
You want a camera with a view finder, not a View Camera, right?

What ones have you looked at?
Define "very expensive."
What do you wish to photograph?

Nikon P7800 or Canon G17 both have electronic view finders, I'm sure there's more, those are the ones I know of. They run about $400.00 to $500.00. It's not easy to find view finders on lower priced point & shoot cameras.

I did some checking and found:

at B&H: Nikon P7800 refurbished $399, Nikon P7100 in 8+ condition (moderate wear) $200

at keh.com: Canon G15, ex+, $328, G16, LN-, $399, Nikon P7000, ex+ $165

I have both the P7800 and P7100 and love them both. Both have 28-200mm lenses, hot shoes, and 1/1.7 inch sensors. The P7800 has an f/2-4 lens and an electronic viewfinder (EVF). The P7100 has an f/2.8-5.6 lens and an optical viewfinder (OVF). I prefer the EVF because you see 100% of what the lens sees, and you get exposure and other information in the VF which you don't get with an OVF.

The G15 and G16 have 28-140mm lenses, a 1/1.7 inch sensor, a hot shoe, and an OVF.

Check out the Sony DSC-H400. B&H has it for $248.00 including free expedited shipping. 63x optical zoom, electronic viewfinder, very good camera.

I assumed that you were referring to a compact camera with a viewfinder. If you are open to a bridge camera you should be able to get a good price on a used Nikon P510 or P520, Canon SX40 or SX50, or a similar Sony, Panasonic, or Fuji camera. Check keh.com. They are the best for used gear.

The OP's original question is vague, and without more detail it's hard to be sure exactly what he has in mind. But I concur that he most likely is not looking for a view camera... but who knows.

I wondered about that, too.

I came across the same problem when I decided to buy a Ferrari.

It doesn't matter, as long as we keep posting. Let's get this to five pages. :D
