My favorite matte finish photo paper is no longer available. I am searching hard and wasting money doing it to find a replacement. What is everyone using for photo paper to get the best results? Particularly 4x6 and 5x7 matte finish.

I've been a fan of Kodak photographic papers for many decades, but have used several others, as well. As Kodak products appear to be fading from the market, I've been extremely pleased with my results using Inkpress materials. ( www.inkpresspaper.com ). They have a remarkable selection, all of which I obtain from B&H Photo, online.

It might be easier to offer suggestions if you could give us a little more information about the paper that was your favorite up until now. There are a myriad of choices available, some of which may be very close approximations; others may be decidedly different. Information about your preferred surface texture, budget, volume and frequency of printing, etc. might help in recommending a paper you would find satisfactory.

The smaller size matte papers seem to have fallen out of favour, but I see where Office Depot, for one, carries a selection of several brands in larger sizes, which may be cut to size with a razor knife and straight edge, with little waste. I personally like Canon Semi-Gloss for colour, and Luster for black and white prints.

It matters what kind of printer you have. Don't mix papers from one printer-company with a printer from another or you'll have a royal mess on your hands.

I have Epson printers and like several of the Epson papers that are made specifically for it. I once tried some leftover Canon and HP paper to see how it would do, and ugh!

I also use several Red River papers that have been determined to be compatible with my printer. With both Epson and Red River, I ordered a sample pack before I invested in a big box of anything I might not like. Then I ordered only the ones I liked best and that had already turned out well on my printer.

Fried, welcome to the Hog.
Why don't you call Red River and get their Sampler Pack. It has two sheets each of about 20 different papers. Cut it into the smaller pieces if you need to.
That's a way to try a lot of papers.
Other companies have sampler packs as well.
Why are you so bent on a particular paper? Good luck

This was the paper that seemed to give me the best results and previously was readily available in my small town in Western ND. I have an HP printer and it was premium HP matte paper. I just have not had the same results with the other HP papers.

I will try the sampler pack. I have been mostly looking online at office supply stores, Best Buy, HP, etc. Again, the availability out here...

The paper was a premium HP photo paper, matte, printing on an HP photo printer, the premium glossy or semi-gloss seems to fade quickly and doesn't seem to print with the same clarity, vibrancy, etc. Although I am not a professional photographer I take loads of pictures and love to share them with other family as well as for advertising of our registered cattle operation. Putting out a good photo is extremely important to me.

You need to create a proper profile for each paper - otherwise your results will be as you describe - "ugh!"

I've used Canon paper on Epson printers and vice versa - with a custom profile.

I used to really like Ilford, but have now switched to Canson - equal or better, and priced similarly. For Fine Art Matte paper, Hahnemuhle, Canson, and Moab. I like the quality of the Etching papers, and for black and white nothing beats the baryta papers from Canson - closest I have found to Iford's Gold Fibre Silk.
