do any of you fine folks use a Bolt battery pack, as opposed to a Nikon one. The Bolt is on sale at B&H for $60 right now, so it is much less than the Nikon version at $200. I was thinking of purchasing one and wanted the thoughts of others. Thanks!

I have one that came with one of my SB910....and with fresh battery's its very nice recycle time and extended my shots from just under 300 to over 600 shots. Think I mite order 2 more at this sale price.

Years ago, I used nicads but did not like the performance and went back to alkaline batteries. I have never used lithium or nickel metal hydride batteries. How good are these?

As for the Bolt, do the flash still use or need to have batteries in it? How does the Bolt work? I presume it is still putting 6 V into flash but with more current. At that price, I doubt if it has much of a storage circuit or am I wrong?

I bought a couple of the Bolt units for my SB800 flashes when the Nikon pack was unavailable. The one made by Bolt met my needs well. I wouldn't hesitate buying another.
I use Eneloop NiMH batteries in them and yes, you still have to have a set in he flash.

I bought two off brand units on eBay for $39.00 each and they work great on my Canon flashes. I have had them for about 6 months now and no problems.
