I had an opportunity tonight to see how great the 7DMK11 was for low noise at high ISO settings. I am excited. It appears much better than my 5D Mkiii. I was shooting after sunset in twilight.
The seagull lacks detail because it was over exposed but I put it in to demonstrate as others have done how fast and accurate it captures BIF.
All taken with 400mm 2.8. the Raven and Kookaburra also had the 2X convertor fitted taking the lens to 5.6.
The noise in the original RAW image was much less than I have seen before.
Converted to Tiff and Post processed in LR and PS using Topaz noise reduction plug in.

6400 ISO shot at +2EV after sunset
6400 ISO shot at +2EV after sunset...

6400 ISO shot at +2EV after sunset
6400 ISO shot at +2EV after sunset...

5000 ISO shot at +1/3EV around sunset

This is good to know. I was looking to get the 7dII for the new sensor I have the 5dII and was looking for a usable higher ISO but The 5dIII has been out for awhile and was looking at the 7dII instead . I would like to see some images side by side from the 5dIII and 7dII shot at the same high ISO.

I set an upper ISO limit on my 5dMKiii because i was so frustrated with the noise. Topaz has helped a lot but the starting point of the original images 5DMKiii compared to 7DMkii is chalk and cheese. Noise is one factor but its worth considering the 5DMkiii for Portrait work and anything else where you want beautiful Boketh.

I agree for the portrait work but I think the 5dII does a great job as long as I'm using strobes, I was thinking of the 7dII to shoot from the back of the church during weddings with a 70-200 2.8 and still using the 5dII up front in the church with a 24-70 2.8 this way I could really increase the ISO and have usable images . Just wondering what did you set your upper ISO limit on you 5dIII and what do think you will set it on your 7dII . Thanks for your help, Greg

I am sure the Nikon camera Guru/salesman from Montana that was flabbergasted claiming the 7D mII is "not good!", because DxO rated it at 70, will probably hide these pictures and the article from his customers who would like to buy a Canon 7D mii (if he sells Canons).
The camera is without doubt, sensational and I am sure you are having a terrific time shooting at you hearts contempt. The icing on the cake is that the 7Dmii does not care about DxO scores and captures great photographs. Very informative observation, Congratulations.

Why the attack on "the Nikon camera Guru/salesman from Montana"?
If you love the 7D2 then good for you. Others can't have an opinion? I shoot canon as of this moment and you seem like the typical defensive canon shooter trying to make himself feel better about your "investment".

Again, I'll ask....Has ANYONE shot this camera at iso 100 and raised shadows?? I for one am interested in what hides in the shadows.

On the 5DMkiii I set the upper limit at 3200. I did manage to improve the noise on the 5DMkiii by pushing up the expo comp and then using Topaz noise reduction but it still didn't come close to the 7DMkii. With all the positive feedback since the release of the 7DMkii I have upped the ISO limit to 16000. I haven't had to use that use that yet, i think my maximum has been 6400.
Hope that helps. I think there is a good chance it will work well for weddings with the use you want to put it to. Have fun.

Many of us possibly started with Nikon or Canon without a huge amount of detailed research. As a consequence you tend to travel down the road of whatever one you chose. Once my skill level improved I was disappointed with the noise levels in my Canon 5DMkiii and considered switching. With thousands of dollars invested in Canon it wasn't something I wanted to do but i was still thinking about a change. I think Canon have made a huge jump forward in relation to noise and many other factors with the 7DMkiii. I am really enjoying it and it is delivering images that i am very happy with. I am sure the Nikon users will still get excellent satisfaction from their cameras and continue to enjoy them. Canon users now have a great new opportunity with the 7DMkii

Pt, look at Tony Northrup's latest uTube from I think Nov. 5 or 6. He goes into exploring the DXO scores, score by score, complete with low light, what's hiding in those shadows, examples that you speak of.
Draw your own conclusion from his real world shots.
Just google, Tony Northrup, 7dll, DXO. ;-)

I have both (5d mkiii-7d mkii) and I have to say, the 7d outperformed my 5d in all aspects. Under very poor lighting in some sections of football field I shot ISO as high as 16000 and was pretty surprised at noise. Noise was there but not as bad as I expected. Better than 1d mkiv also. Focused much faster too. Very happy 😍

Thank you! If all of what he says is true then the 7D2 will be my next cam. I'm still waiting for Adobe to release LR up dates. The actual people will chime in. But that is indeed impressive.
