Thanks for your comment. I am not looking for a $500 camera. 7D was a great camera for it's time, though still usable for certain types of photography, it's got its limitations that puts it behind the technology and and performance curve.
The MK ii has some nice enhancements like the dual pixel AF and in general better AF functionality, 65 points cross type AF, 10 fps, weather sealing, dual memory card, borrows some features and performance from 1D and 5D and more. The place where I am in doubt is in the misses area: No touch screen, no wifi, noise or SNR performance (slightly better than 7D), Dynamic range and Image quality (though subjective).
I will look at real pictures taken in different situations by others to figure out my trade-off point.
Thanks for your comment. I am not looking for a $5... (show quote)

NS, go to "The Digital Picture" and read his review. His review is not complete but he does go over the noise issues and compares the 7ll a LOT to the 7l.

BUT the 7ll is designed from the ground up to be a sports/wildlife specialist.
But even if you shoot indoors under flickering light, that feature alone is worth a bunch. And you are not likely to EVER find built-in wifi in a pro model, as it doesn't work well wth the metal bodies.
Look at the uTube " Scott Kelby 7d Mark ll ", if you shoot any sports at all. The sports stuff also transfers directly to wildlife shooting. ;-)

I really meant the price of the MKii (about $1800) +/- 500 which makes it in the range of $1300 to 2300. I would not go for anything below the original 7D which I still love.

I Have a 7D (which I am keeping) and I just added the 7DM2 to my arsenal. If you love the 7D you will be IN love with the 7D Mark II. Even if you are not into sports or wild life, the low light performance is phenomenal for a crop frame and the 65-point AF system is both powerful and flexible. Plus, if you already have the 7D and sell just the body, all the lenses will still be compatible. In addition to what I already mentioned, the weather sealing on this camera is also greatly improved.

First Question: Why do you want to upgrade?

What does your 7D not do that you need it to?

Cameras are like autos...they are at their best when you aren't making payments.

The longer you shoot that camera that does what you need...the better off you are.

So..what isn't it doing that you need?

These are good questions, and the 7D limitations are well known (I can list them if interested), and if cameras compare to cars , I like driving and want to enjoy many newer technological advances. (like all wheel drive CVT transmission and X-drive.....)

Hmm, then how did they do this with my em1? It's an all metal body, and it works great.

Try the camera. I do not like the way DXOMark does their tests.

I have my own theory on why Canon doesn't offer wi-fi on it's high end models. From what I have read, the in-camera wi-fi doesn't have the range or speed of the on-camera units being sold by Canon and others. Since these cameras are geared towards professionals my guess is that Canon has determined that the pros would prefer the more capable external units, if they even use wi-fi in the first place. Just a guess on my part.

You may be used to Canon... But the Sony A77II is a class leader and you can get a new one for less than $900.00 [/quote]

I checked out the prices and the cheapest I could find in the NYC stores was $1,500. Where can you find a new one for less than $900????

Don't forget, you need a lens, which drives the price up to $1,500.

If Nikon does not come out with a D400 (or what ever name) soon, I will probably sell my D7000, and D5000, and lenses and switch to a 7D mark ll. Do not want to go full frame.

I will tell you right from the top I use Nikon equipment. One thing I have always had a problem with is how DXO can consistently give poor grades to Canon and yet so many professionals choose their cameras. Here are the plain facts right from DXO's lab, are these pros blind? Why wouldn't they choose the best possible? I always had doubts as to whether the type of tests they run aren't slanted towards Nikon, not in a underhanded way but the tests favor the engineering or design characteristics behind Nikon sensors. I own a D300s and let me tell you the images I've seen especially at high ISO that come from the 7D II are unobtainable withe the D300s. My D300s starts to lose good image quality and starts spiking in noise at 800 ISO. I would take the 7D II all day long over my Nikon. Thom Hogan also a Nikon user and author, well known in the Nikon world wrote a good article this week concerning DXO testing, it is a good read and may shine some light on the Canon/Nikon test comparisons:

http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/do-you-believe-in-dxomark.html

My advice let not one test a decision make. From what I've seen the 7D II is going to be an awesome camera, remember the original 7D was every bit as good as the D300s in many areas, I really doubt Canon digressed with the new model. Now if only Nikon would come with a D300s upgrade.

The 7D MKII has been called the baby 1D, and if you shoot wildlife and sports this is the camera to own. I have one and the photos at high ISO are amazing, with little noise. Canon waited a long time to produce this camera and now I see why. The one thing they could have done is made the view screen flexible.

The 7Dll is totally weather sealed, thus no flex screen. It is an advanced `pro` camera, thus no wifi. It is a sports camera, thus has the best AF out there. It is a wildlife camera, thus has really good ISO capabilities. If one wants all the Mickey Mouse gimmicks go with something else.
