I have a question about the new 7dmkii autofocus. I glanced at the manual today, and I read where the amount of cross focus points is dependent on the lens type. However, only Canon lenses were listed. Does anyone know if there are any listings for third party lenses? Specifically, I am looking for where the Tamrom 150-600 fits in.
Right now, this is the only thing keeping me from purchasing one.
Thanks

Mark, I have not read the manual.
BUT, I'm pretty sure what it is referring to is the fact that f2.8 lenses and faster will use the Ultra sensitive areas of the center portion of the focus screen. That's true of ALL the Canon Pro-grade bodies. That's one of the reasons you see all the sport guys with 400 f2.8's and not 500's.
So you will still use all the focus points, just not the super sensitive area.
But that's just my educated guess.
JUST ORDER THE DARN THING. You want to shoot like the pros, RIGHT?!!
SS
PS, and NO more girlie stuff!! Stop that.
Since I resisted the urge today, if I order tomorrow, I will have all weekend to suffer. To get thru this, I will have to settle for reading the manual (girlie man!)
:)
With a maximum f/5 aperture, I'd suspect the Tamron lens will fall into Group F (47 points). You might craft an email to Tamron support and see what they can confirm. I used the 5DIII manual assuming the lens groupings will stay the same between the 1DX / 5DIII and 7DII models for this aspect of usable AF points.
Thanks I will reach out to Tamron
MarkintheHV, Please let us know as I own the 150-600 as well. Thanks, Gary
