I have been playing around with the topaz filters and have noticed that there are times when I have tried the HDR heavy grunge in the adjust filter, there appears to be a halo around the subjects. What causes this and how can it be eliminated?

I have had the same type problem on the heavy edits in HDR. There is quite a bit of information on Google. Enter "Halos in HDR Images" in the address bar for information.

You could have this from sharpenning your picture before Topaz. Try Topaz before sharpenning and then sharpen but not overdo. Please let me know if I was right.

Any of the programs that increase detail will cause halos if used too heavily. Topaz is not alone.

The answer is, "I dunno, they just do." :-)

Did you do any adjustments in Topaz? Can you post your original before any correction?

Use the blur tool, set to about 60% opacity, Mode: Darken, set the brush size using your left or right brackets, then brush over the halo (but not the tree itself). It won't make it go away completely, but it will blend it in with the background layer.

Here is the original photo. It was a cloudy, rainy day.

I do not see it. Check store original box and do not press preview button.

Pushing colors to much also causes this problem.

Bob, it's seems to me that this picture has chromatic aberration and it caused all other problem. As I remember you are a big specialist to remove CA.

Here is a very helpful tutorial from the Topaz website about using layer masks to correct halos. It works!http://blog.topazlabs.com/importance-using-layer-masks-plugins/?mc_cid=602cbe27b7&mc_eid=...

It also helps to correct chromatic aberration before using an editing tool that is known to produce halos.

In a last resort, you sometimes have to clone out those pesky things.
