I wished they would have put in a larger sensor.

If they put in a larger sensor, they would have to put in a proportionally larger lens. The small sensor is what makes the impressively long reach attainable in something you can hold reasonably.
Bridge cameras began as an effort to extend point-and-shoot cameras to give some of the capabilities people want from DSLR cameras, and their heritage shows.

Wow. Not only pissed off about two features that could probably be done in PP, but bypassing EVERYTHING ELSE and going straight to DSLR. Closed minded much?

maybe they should have waited another year, and come out with the super improved sx 80.

I have the SX50 but will wait for the SX 2000 before I upgrade.

Maybe 1 or 2 percent didn't care about some of the creative filter features, but you ask yourself why didn't canon phase out fisheye effect, or toy camera effect, or miniature effect.

you ask yourself that question?

I'm not close minded, & I liked those 2 features...
color accent, & color swap, those features were very important to me, & I used them a helluva lot on my 2 canon powershots.

its about creativity! :hunf:

I like the SX 60, no arguments about it!, as well for the other new canon powershots that came out just before xmas, its just that i'm tired of canon skimping on features or what used to be included with the cameras like a full manual, or cable to connect between the camera & computer, now to my understanding they are no longer providing CD's on new models that are being introduced, putting canon users through ''HELL".

you think about it! :hunf:

They still provide a usb cable with DSLR cameras to connect the camera to a computer. I'm guessing that they've found out that most buyers of PowerShot cameras are more into WiFi.

Not including a manual is becoming very common amongst companies, and most Internet-focused customers may not notice.

He'll probably get rid of his Nikon when the batteries go dead. Eventually he will run out of excuses (manufacturers). Then, the learning begins.

I have found an advantage to the bridge cameras over the DSLR's. MACRO!!! The smaller sensors have more depth-of-field. I have a Lumix FZ40 that I use the Raynox close-up filter on and it is amazing. My Nikon D300 does have better pics but it is a fight to get good focus. Just saying.

I don't want lots of dof; the trick is to get the butterfly in focus and the stuff around it out-of-focus. I'm still learning to use my Tamron 18-270 effectively, but eventually getting it right will be worth the "fight".

I got to play with the canon SX 60 last night at the best buy in West Hollywood, Calif, its good, it has new features, but i'm passing for 2 matters...

unlike the SX 50 & other Canon Powershot cameras, canon decided to phase out the "Color Accent", & ''Color Swap'', & those 2 features on the creative filters mode were important to me, it gave me a creative feeling to shot my photos any damn way I wanted.

& because canon wanted to cut these 2 features out of its creative filters mode, i'm not gonna consider buying another canon, that's why I said that my next camera, a D.S.L.R. will be a Nikon, not canon, canon is good, but when you kill off a feature that you enjoyed, why buy that product.

...so canon lost a customer in the near future. :x :hunf: :-(

A Nikon DSLR won't provide you with on-board "Color Accent", & ''Color Swap'' features either. Learning how to create those effects yourself in post processing is a far more productive solution than an ineffective attempt to punish Canon by means of boycott.

Hi 74.

I understand your anger. It's very frustrating when new models omit useful features. My friend uses that camera and he was lamenting the elimination of a low light feature that was on the earlier models.

However I suggest this is the nature of the "product" beast these days and not confined to Canon. Things change very rapidly and not always for the better. I see it everywhere in software and hardware, professional and consumer. That's what I mean by the "nature of the beast".

I urge you not to throw the baby out with the bath water. If you like your camera you can keep it and use it. Regarding the new model there are no doubt post processing solutions for the same thing or there may be other camera settings that will do a similar thing. (??)

Along that line, I sueggest you send a letter to Canon Cust service because (1) they need to hear from happy and also unhappy Customers and (2) If there is an alternate work around they can advise you of it.

FYI I shoot Nikon, not Canon, because my Nikon camera likes me and gives me great photos. 😃 But Canon makes a very fine camera. I would never berate anybody for using a different camera than me. I definitely don't suscribe to the "you must use this equipment because it's the best" philosophy, and I don't understand all the angry emotional replies to this post.

I say use what you like. Use what works for you. Use what makes you smile and grin. Your opinion is what counts. Nobody's else's. Sorry for the rant. Moving on....

There are benefits to DSLRs, (and some disadvantages). Take your time deciding if a DSLR is right for you and if it is, then take some time to do some research, and have some fun deciding which brand to choose. Don't decide in anger, decisions made in anger rarely turn out well.

Just saying...

Yes, with all due respect, i seriously doubt Canon will miss your future business. I have spent thousands of dollars with Canon over the years, which is a "drop in the bucket," but if i decide to "cut them off" for some reason, i won't be waiting or a phone call begging for my return business.

I wish you well with your new venture with Nikon. Someone told me that Nikon actually keeps each customers personal preferences stored somewhere and will build a Camera specifically for them with an "MMM" model number instead of the traditional 'D' designation. It stands for "Me Me Me", and is designed for people with acute narcissism.

I don't know if it's true, but if it is, I'm certainly going to get me one.
That is of course, if it will allow me to look at myself while taking a photo
