I got to play with the canon SX 60 last night at the best buy in West Hollywood, Calif, its good, it has new features, but i'm passing for 2 matters...

unlike the SX 50 & other Canon Powershot cameras, canon decided to phase out the "Color Accent", & ''Color Swap'', & those 2 features on the creative filters mode were important to me, it gave me a creative feeling to shot my photos any damn way I wanted.

& because canon wanted to cut these 2 features out of its creative filters mode, i'm not gonna consider buying another canon, that's why I said that my next camera, a D.S.L.R. will be a Nikon, not canon, canon is good, but when you kill off a feature that you enjoyed, why buy that product.

...so canon lost a customer in the near future. :x :hunf: :-(

And there were probably less than 1 or 2 percent of the owners that really cared about those options. Yes, I know they are there but have NEVER used them! Without them, it is less confusion on the menu.

that's why when i look for a camera , I list the things it must have for me. there are always plenty of things left over that others must have.

maybe they should have waited another year, and come out with the super improved sx 80.

Here is a Quote from your history when you joined UHH in Aug. of this year--"my next camera will be a D.S.L.R., a Nikon I can tell you that." So tell us why you are blowing smoke about the SX60?

Any such in camera filters can be replicated in post processing which provides much more flexibility. Just shoot in raw.

Good for you! Maybe if enough Canonites would vote with their wallet Canon would make some real changes in their cameras.

You are an intelligent person. I would never look at a bridge camera again until they come with an optical view finder. Much better color with a DSLR. Photos from bridge cameras look flat to me. Eye Dr. told me I may never need cataract surgery even in my advanced years.

EVFs are bigger and brighter. The settings can be altered if you learn how. They will magnify automatically for manual focus. They can show data if you so wish. I am sure that DSLRs will not have old - fashioned mirrors and prisms for much longer. :-)

Wayne, why Nikon?
Canon and Nikon both lag in their DSLR choices. Where are their mirrorless designs? What about built-in wifi, GPS, tilt screens, 4K video, or a truly flexible operating system? Micro 4/3rds and other smaller form factor cameras from Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung etc are adopting those features much more quickly and are increasingly popular. The main reason to stick with Canon or Nikon for their DSLRs is if you already have an investment in their glass or you have special needs like sports, wildlife, or very low light performance. Even those reasons will soon be filled by the smaller cameras. Sony even has a full frame mirrorless camera that is getting great reviews.

Canon and Nikon both provide articulated screens which are more flexible than tilt screens.
I never take video, so I don't care whether it is 4K or whatever

My wife is a birdwatcher, and we take various nature walks together. Lots of telephoto is important to me, and Nikon/Canon are much better there, possibly just because of history. You can get up to 200mm for mirror-less mounts, but not much past there unless you get an adapter, and I don't see much point to getting the adapter instead of using the mount the lens was designed for.

I have a long-time interest in railroads - trains sometimes move fast, which put a serious burden on focusing.

Now, I have been watching the mirror-less cameras, and asking lots of questions. When I buy my next camera, I will be open to the mirror-less variants, especially since a pancake lens makes them a candidate to double as a pocket camera.

I had the SX40 and now the SX50. Yes, you are right the pictures do look flat. Although, if you are out to get a good bridge camera then the SX50 is excellent. It may not be the fastest at focusing. I've lost a lot of good shots because of the slow focusing. I'm going for the 7D MarkII after the first of the year and a telephoto lens and macro also. Don't want to waste my time and energy on a bridge camera anymore. But that's my feeling about a bridge camera.

I wished they would have put in a larger sensor.
