On my 12-40 I do:

I probably should on my 75, but with the metal hood I feel like it's pretty protected.

It's kind of neat, actually. When I turn my camera on, the super-control panel (I think that's what it's call, haven't got my manual nearby) comes on.
Just above the LCD screen and to the left of the viewfinder, is an icon that looks like a rounded rectangle with a line on each side. Press on that button and your LCD will show whatever you point your camera at - using your LCD screen in Live view mode.
Now start bringing the small viewfinder up to your eye and when it's about two inches away, the LCD will go black and the image will appear in the viewfinder.
Move the camera away from your eye and the image will return to the LCD and the viewfinder will go black.

Don't know about the guys, but I don't.
I do, however, ALWAYS have the lenshood on when I'm outside, and both inside and outside I have the camera strap over my right shoulder with the camera hanging on my left hip.
For my much heavier E-5 camera I have an Op/Tech bino-harness - a strap that crosses on my back and comes forward over both shoulders - nicely dividing the weight of the camera.
The only filters I use are a circular polarizing filter or an ND filter but even with those I have the lens hood on as well.

Keep in mind that the firmware for the E-M1 is now up to version 2.0
I have not yet updated mine, waiting for some weather that doesn't have "possible lightning strikes" or "windstorm warning" in the forecast. Last Wednesday we were without power for 12 hours!
In any case, while I haven't checked out this new manual yet either, I expect there will be some explanation to be found for new features with the firmware update, among them tethered shooting:

Hmmm, maybe not so bad that the weather is poor, that will give me time to read about this new stuff :)

You'll be glad you waited...I did mine right away, and then they released an update that keeps your custom my sets...I lost all of mine.

I do and, at my age and unsteadiness, it's saved a few lenses!

Seeing that you have an E-5 I was wondering if you have tried your 4/3 lenses on the E-M1 and how that works out? I have a an E-3 with two Lumix Leica lenses but have yet to buy an E-M1.

When I bought the E-M1, the staff in the store asked me what lens I wanted to buy with it, and they were a bit surprised when I told them "None!"
Instead, I got the adapter to use the 4/3 lenses. The two I worked with in those early weeks, were the 14-54mm and the 50-200mm. Both work just fine, and all the features are still there. Because I still use the E-5 as well (mostly for tripod work, 'cause it's a heavy beast), twice now, I had the 14-54 lens on the E-5 when I also wanted it on the E-M1.
So my first purchase after the camera was the 12-40mm M4/3 lens.
I've also checked out the flash I use with the E-5, FL-50R and as a remote flash, it works great.
After I get the 40-150mm lens in November, next on my wish-list is the M 4/3, 1.4 teleconverter. That will give me a reach of 210mm - should be enough for now ;-)

A couple of months ago, I bought David Busch's book for the E-M1 - Excellent book, but dry reading. So I tend to use it as a reference book.
Just yesterday, someone here on the Hog recommended Gary Friedman's book for this camera, it's only $20 and is easy to read:
http://www.friedmanarchives.com/OlympusE-M1/index.htm
It comes with a separate "booklet" for the version 2.0 firmware update.
Also, it being downloaded as a pdf file, and epub file AND a mobi file, you can read it wherever you want, or even print it out!
Thank you, to whoever made that recommendation!
