I've had my D7100 for a week and I love it. Getting more familiar with it each day. I have two other Nikons, a D5100 and my trusty old D200. I have room in my bag for two cameras with lenses, so I put the D200 into semi-retirement. I really like that D200 and wonder if I should put it in the bag next to the D7100 instead of the D5100. What would you do? No, I'm not buying a three camera bag.

I would keep the D200. The D5100 is not going to give you any utility that you will not get from the D7100. The D200, being a mid-range camera rather than an entry level, will have features that will be useful, even in contrast to the D7100. I would not worry about the lower resolution, since many shots will be perfectly fine with this "deficiency"... Good shooting!!

By today's standards, the D5100 is a much better camera, it has a cmos sensor compared to the ccd sensor of the D200. The D5100 will give you significantly better image quality. The D200 was an excellent mid-range camera...6 years ago but the D5100 is newer technology.

It would depend on the lenses you plan to use.

I think a lot of you guys like to engage in mental mastrabation. if you are a casual shooter then anything goes. if you make your living with a camera, then find your ideal one and buy two.

If you prefer shooting with the D200 and it still gets the shots you want why switch? As along as "old faithful" does the job, stick with what you are most comfortable.

If you use non "AF-S" lenses, then the D200 will autofocus with them but the D5100 will not. Otherwise, put either one in the bag but only use the D7100, it is unequivocally better than both.

Help me see if I have the facts correct. You have three cameras that you like? You have a bag that holds two cameras/lens? That leaves one camera with which to shoot? I'm looking through a different view finder cause I can't see any reason for a three camera bag. Then you wouldn't be able to shoot at all.

Trade them both in and buy another lens.

Is there some reason you need a backup? I'm not dissing you, but only asking if your photography is "mission critical" like a wedding photog or something.

Here's a comparison of specs and features.

I have a back up. I kept my 3200 when I bought my d800, I do not take my d800 on the motorcycle, to big of a loss if something happened! still a loss if something happened to the d3200, but not as big!!

but that is just me!!

Sell both of them and buy a lens like the 70-200 f/2.8 or 24-70 f/2.8. Good luck.
