Still searching for a quality carbon fiber tripod that won't break the bank. I need a tripod that will fit a 6'5" guy. I would love to get a Really Right Stuff 34L tripod, but with a ball head is going to cost about $1500.

I found my Induro C414 used on e-bay and am very satisfied. I'm 6'4" and it's plenty tall enough. It was less than $400.00.
My photo teacher once said, "we all need a steady tripod like Marion's" He was judging from my pictures.

I found some Feisol tripods at my local camera store. I am 6'2" and with a ball head and no center column I can set my camera higher than I can see through. My cost was $419 just for the tripod and I went without the center column. Take a look at the four section ones.

Thanks Marion. I'll give ebay a look.

Thanks bjprovo. I'd prefer to do without a center column. I'll give Feisol a closer look.

I seldom raise my center column, but it sure is nice to raise it a few inches, like I did yesterday, instead of dealing with all three legs. I was shooting macro and it would have been a pain to raise all three legs to get it just right.

I have a RRS TVC-24L. I later found a Gitzo G1352 MkII on ebay that nearly in every way is as good and at 1/3 the price of the RRS. (I gave the Gitzo as a gift.) The Gitzo model might not meet your height needs and it's an 'out of print' version so specs might be hard to locate.

Greenguy;
You should change your name to "tall guy"! First; check my reply to Carlo about tripods; (I just posted it 6 seconds ago! ) You like those Really Right Stuff tripods and ball heads, eh? (Most people do, and they're great! ) As I mentioned to Carlo.....I know a lady who shoots mainly with a great big Nikon D4, and quite a bit of the time she has her "even great bigger" f/2.8-400mm hanging on it; for years, (like a lot of people ), she used Manfroto Q/R plates; also like a lot of other people, she discovered why everyone had gone to Arca-style plates and clamps; then she needed a new tripod and a gimbal head for that HUGE lens she had; she went with Induro for the tripod AND the gimbal head; loves them both! If you want a REALLY great ball head, check out an Arca-Swiss B-1; 12 years ago, that was all RRS sold; the guy who bought RRS started making his own heads. (They're great.....no doubt......but the B-1 is just as "great"; the thing is very light, has a HUGE ball, (which is "aspheric" rather than "spherical" ), which prevents camera "flop"; I was still using my Nikon F-5 and big, heavy 80-200, f/2.8 zoom when I got my B-1 (pre-owned ) from a fellow in the U.K. It holds that camera & lens like most heads hold a small camera with a 50mm lens; believe me......you can pick up a high quality tripod AND ball head a LOT less than 15 Cs!

33, have you looked at used? If you're not in a hurry, used can be an option. And if you live in/near a large urban area Craig's list could help, as well as places like KEH.
But good stuff is expensive even used. Good luck. ;-)

I think used is the only way to go for me.

I am the sole USA Distributor of their Pro Line Products. I started with the Carbon Fiber gimbal heads that I helped design and then moved to the over-sizing of their Carbon Fiber tripods with enhancements for the USA market.
