How do I get rid of Error code 0x8000000a

I was trying to open a photo on my desktop & received this error code message. If I right click & go down to "show how to open this file" a window opens that says "choose how you want to open this file". I can then choose Photo Gallery & it opens up to the chosen photo but this is a round about way to open. I don't want to download one of those programs that states they can get rid of it in 2 minutes unless I know it's a safe site. Anyone else had this problem & how did you deal with it? Thanks for any help/advice.

I'm going to show my technology ignorance (at least I spelled it correctly) & say I don't know what a zip drive is. When it comes to computers I can only scrape by with a few of the basics: check my email, download some pics, etc. That's about it.

Nope. I had just pp'd a photo & saved it to my desktop right before this started happening. The photo was one that I had already saved to photo gallery. I took the original photo from Zoombrowzer (where I had originally downloaded the photo) then pp'd the photo & tried to save to photo gallery. This message came up: "this file already exists. Do you want to change it?" I clicked no & decided to save to the desktop. It let me save but when I tried to open I got the error message.

Windows 7. When I right click on the photo I get a drop down window. If I click on "show how to open this file" I get a window with options such as Elements 10, Photo Gallery, Paint, etc. The only box is the one at the bottom that states "always use this program to open this file" but the desktop is not an option. I can open the file; it just takes a little longer. No big problem.I downloaded RegCure Pro. & did the scan. Supposedly, I have over 1,300 problems but they want $30.00 to fix it.

I just got through doing the uninstall. I get regular defragg every week at the same time. I just did a disk clean up yesterday or day before. Avast reminds me of & does regular updates. This old girl is gonna have to sign off. Bedtime has arrived. Thanks for trying to help but I think I'll just leave well enough alone for now. :-)

There shouldn't be error messages, for just the reason you cite. Unless you're a tech, with a manual in front of you, they're meaningless. If a statement tells you nothing, why offer it? If the machine knows it's experiencing Error 12345, then it knows what the problem is, so why not tell us? And offer a solution.

More stupidity.

According to Microsoft site, the error code is caused by trying to open a zipped file into Windows Live viewer.

Try right clicking on the image and see if there is an option to "unzip".

Other remedies appear to be not to set Windows Live viewer as a default but always choose it from the "Open With" option. Do not set as "Always open with #Windows Live Viewer"

Neither of these remedies are tested by me, I don't have Windows Live viewer on my computer.
