I was going out to photo the moon last night. Set my tripod in hall way while I go jacket. Leg clamp on cheapo tripod slipped and all fell. My 70-200 F4 L broke off the camera. Shipped it off to Canon "not exactly in tact". Camera seems ok.

ANOTHER lesson learned...ugghh

A quality tripod is ALWAYS worth investing in.

I keep telling my husband that too. He has a light weight tripod and will put it in the middle of a brook to take pictures. His Camera alone weighs more then the tripod, let a lone the lens added to it. I hope he doesn't learn the HARD way.

RegisG, sorry to hear your loss. As others have indicated, tripods are an investment that will last many years if you buy with that in mind reflective in price.

Hope Canon treats you well.

Cassy, at least if it falls off into the water, it probably won't break!

RegisG sorry to hear of your misfortune. Good Luck and I hope the repair is not too expensive. Do you have a home owners insurance rider for your camera equipment?

Even the best tripods fall over occasionally. When I'm shooting on a tripod I always have the neck strap loosely around my neck, just in case.

So sorry. This sounds like something that would happen to me. I'm just starting out, so, I'll keep this in mind when I purchase a tripod.
