As a matter of curiosity, I've not seen (at least locally), frame 'wood', already designed that one can buy by the foot. Is it still available to purchase and make your own frames?

Go to Home Depot or Lowe's or Menard's or any other home improvement store and buy moulding and make your own.

Thanks Jethro, I was aware they had molding, but I was hoping to be able to buy the actual frame material, that's already cut-out for the glass and backing. I may end-up having to use the molding and do it myself. Thanks for your input.

Frame shops that stock such material will usually sell you lengths of it to do your own framing with. Or you can order it online from several sources.

Thanks MT, I tried Mangleson's and Hobby Lobby, but they only make the frames, and won't sell the frame material. Guess the online method will be my alternate choice. I'm sorta old fashioned, and like to see and handle the product before I buy. Boy, that really dates me, doesn't it? Thanks MT for your comments.

I was actually referring to a REAL frame shop, which Hobby Lobby definitely is not. I have no idea what a Mangelsons is, never heard of them.
Good luck.

I am lucky to have a distributor of frame molding locally.
Frame Game
Only problem I see would be shipping without pre-cutting some length that would fit several sizes.
That would avoid waste and oversize shipping.
I am old school also and have the frame vises and diamond pointer but I would rather be out shooting.
Framing is the most expensive part of getting a shot to market.
Of course, how one spends their time, is up to them.
And there are those for which framing may be as enjoyable, or more, than photography.
If you have tons of money and little time, then I can see how you would rather be shooting and paying someone to frame.
Many are on fixed incomes and have the skills to frame, so by all means, do so.
This comes up every time someone mentions framing.
Good luck with your framing! ;-)

They only have a limited selection of moulding specific for art framing.
