I repair and clean PCs part-time since I retired from engineering. I have personally received dozens of emails from Comcast over the years telling me that my computer "may be infected by a bot." This has never been the case; I use Avast free AV software and Comodo's free firewall at all times. When Comcast sends me a warning, I use Malewarebytes Anti-Malware and/or Spybot Search & Destroy and have never found an infection of any kind.

It took several tries but I think that I have finally persuaded Comcast to stop sending me these false alarms. I just checked and the last warning I got was in November of last year.

That must be Freudian slip that you called it "MALEWAREBYTES" instead of "MALWAREBYTES". LOL.

AVAST is another fine antivirus program but with the customer service people being so close to me in Davao, I feel it supports the employment picture here better than AVAST. I've also never had any problems but I do use more than just AVG for protection.

AVG free stand alone virus scanner has fixed many of my customers machines..... It can boot from a dvd or a thumb drive... prepare the program on a clean computer.... Put the thumb drive or dvd in the broken computer and boot up... It boots in unix or a derrivitive of unix and runs without starting windows... Works great...

Best of luck

I have used AVG for several years with good success. You can download a free trial version good for one year. Good luck.

The computer repair shop I use had recommended AVG and I've been happy with it for several years. When I talked to them last week I asked again and they said that AVG was still very good, but had become a system hog. They now recommend Avast.

I'm going to switch from AVG to Avast.

BidDefender is considered one of the best anti-virus programs available. You can pick it up for $35. I had problems when I had McAfee. I don't now that I have BitDefender.

Thank you Steve, we don't care much for McAfee either.
