Need a good anit-virus program to run on two systems. Neither one is the same problem. Comcast detected a bot but when we run the scan nothing is found. On the computer while trying to run a scan all kind of other junk is popping up and not letting the scan to work. Preferably a free one. Thanks for any help.
Try Malwarebytes free version.

download malware bytes on a different computer, move it to a thumb drive, execute and install it on the thumbdrive. plug thumb drive into infected machine and launch malwarebytes from there
Malwarebytes is not an antivirus program.
In a recent survey in the UK Kasperskey 2014 came top for the third year running.
Malwarebytes is a good anti-malware program.

How about windows defender? It's free and it seems to do a good job for me.

Yes I realize you get what you pay for, but I'm sure some of the free ones work great. We pay for one and have firewalls and one free, still having problems. Not so much on this one but the other. I used eset (I think) it did find a lot of things on here that Norton and the others missed.

I downloaded the new Malwarebytes this morning and ran it. It found 30 threats, including RegistryCleanPro which I thought I had removed but was hiding in three places.
I quarantined all the threats and rebooted. Reboot time was about twice as fast as before. Firefox, which has been growing more and more sluggish, now comes up with the speed and snap it had before.
Thank you for reminding me how great Malwarebytes has been over the years. I'll follow your example and run it weekly.
