Can you help find a travel tripod for tall people?

I'm looking for a travel-sized (under 22" folded) tripod that is lightweight (ideally no more than 5-6 pounds) and extends to my eye height (74 inches). Do you know of any firm that makes a tripod or tripods that fit these specifications? All you tall photogs out there, have you any recommendations? Shorter tripods are fine for those occasions where you have room to work, but when you're jammed together in a small space with 60,000 of your "closest" friends, crouching down to sight thru a camera that's 5 feet off the ground is next to impossible.

Spool, welcome to the Hog. What you describe is certainly not a travel pod. And by design, travel pods are small.
Probably many companies make them.
I know that Gitzo makes at least a few models of legs that are somewhat tall. you'll have to look them up. I'm sure they will not be cheap, none of their stuff is. But I'm sure it will be less that 4-5 pounds, as that would be pretty heavy for legs alone.
Don't forget a ball will add a min. of 4".
Again, welcome and good luck! ;-)

If you are crowded to the point where bending down a few inches is impossible, the last thing you want is a light weight flimsy tripod that puts the camera six feet high. When (not if) people trip on one of those legs, just think how many pieces the camera will be in...

If it really is that crowded, use a monopod. Another "trick" is to have a "ropepod". A length of 1/8th inch rope with a loop you can put your foot in and a way to attach the other end to the camera, can be pulled tight to provide significant (but not nearly what a tripod provides) stability.

I am a few inches taller than you and use a Three Legged Thing tripod, carbon fiber. If you look on B&H and/or Adorama, you sometimes can get a bargain on a new tripod that was last year's model.

I second the Three Legged Thing tripods. I have the 'Brian' model and it has been a great travel tripod. I am 6'5" and this tripod goes higher than I want it to. I would not use it with the center column fully extended on a windy day, but otherwise it is very stable and has tremendous flexibility.

after all is said and done and you've looked through adorama and b&h. try a good compact tripod and a folding stool. I shoot from a stool, a scooter, and a chair or bench. if I could i'd even try kneeling down. there are always to get it done.

I have this one. I am 6' 2" and this goes higher than I need to stand straight up. And that is without a center column. http://www.feisol.net/feisol-classic-large-tripod-ct3471-rapid-p-2.html

One thing that has really worked for me (I'm 6'4") with high and low shots is my 90 degree angle view finder attachment. It allows you to look down through the eyepiece into the finder.

But it rotates, so you've got a 360 degree travel for it so you can shot from the side while angled up to your eye. OR, you can be at ground level and shoot up through flowers etc. in the MACRO world.

It takes a little getting used to and can, initially, cause some disorientation, but it's a solution.

Another solution is a body with a tilting LCD Screen. Then you can have the Triod at its most stable (shortest skinniest legs retracted, column down) and look at your scene like with the "Waist level finder" of the old Twin Lens Reflexes's and other medium format Reflexes. Plus you've got all the world of Live View shooting to use.

Great for portraits with a seated model, also.

And you'll never have to call the Fork Lift to get up off your knees. Very embarrassing at a Church Wedding.

I'm about 6'4" and bought an Induro 414, off e-bay. It goes plenty high, but it's a little long>25.5 inches and maybe a little heavy
You can look at this link,

I have the Mefoto road trip (I am 6'1") and it works well for me. Also breaks down into a monopod

Go to Adarama or B&H and use their filters ( height, weight, folded length ) in the tripod area and you will find what you looking for.
