I bought an AF-S 105 2.8 IF-ED VR Micro this morning! I thought I'd submit my very first attempt at macro so I can watch my progress through the years! Whoohoo!
I also own a 105 DC, which is an awesome lens for portraits, but I love our world's minutia so decided to get this one, too. Very different bokeh on this lens; both are sharp and FAST!
Comments always welcome. I'm a newbie at this macro sport.
Nikon D600, f/10, 1/125, Raw, ISO 1000, Aperture priority

(Download)

Here's a photo taken of the same flower yesterday with the 105 DC lens.

The new lens looks like it gives you a very sharp image. I'm sure you'll have a great time exploring its capabilities.

Both are great pictures. It sounds and more importantly, looks, as if you are all set.

Thank you, Nikonian. I read through it before I bought the lens. Let me know if I flop my hairy toe across the "Close-Up Photography" line!

I'm sure I'll be trying my hand at speedlight in order to increase DOF.

When you get the urge, take a look at pages #4 & #5 here: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-32754-4.html Which speedlight do you own?

I'm back! (Just welcomed our fifth grandchild, a boy-child, into the world!)
I own a Nikon SB-600 speedlight. Hmmm. We just finished a half-gallon of ice cream and I have two kinds of paper towels. Looks like I'm good to go. (This paragraph is for the benefit of my husband, who, I'm sure is in a panic as I look at all the cool new toys I NEED to support my habit.)

My macro set-up is a Nikon D5200 with Nikkor 105G, a Nikon SB-600 speedlight with a $15 FotoDiox 6x8-inch softbox diffuser. You are quite close to a very decent macro set-up of your own.

Hey, thanks! Can you tell me how the soft box is rigged to the camera?
